I painted a photo of this skull. Trouble is, I painted it too small so now I have to imagine what the rest of the table looked like.

So this was my attempt at painting the rest of the table. It doesn't look right to me :/

Well I like it. What you've done is changed the theme of the composition by adding more empty space. It is no longer about this object to ponder, but about the relationship between this object and this space to ponder. Frankly, I like that. The fact that you didn't bulls eye the object like the photo makes it work even better aesthetically. Be it from accident or subconscious design sense, enjoy that it happened. Learn from it and move on to the next painting.
