Try to make yourself line/paint one of your sketches every day. Spend 30 minutes to an hour to make at least one of your sketches look finished and acceptable enough to show to other people every day. It's alright if the lineart or coloring is bad, just keep at it until completing sketches feels like second nature.

Basically this, almost 80 hours now, i have been wondering, is it better to practice the fundies like no tomorrow and after i get good at it make finished pieces or should i go as i want? I have been polishing turds but i can notice that they are turds so they give me mixed feelings about it

>> No.3055531

>>3055498
While you're studying fundies think about what you really want to draw and how what you're studying relates to what you want to draw. Once every so often let yourself have a break from fundies, you draw something you really want to draw but finish it to the best of your ability.

>> No.3055943

>>3055531
Thanks for the reply, when i started grinding the fundies i had a slight idea of what you said, i was kind of happy with how things were progressing but now i have been neglecting the fundies and have been drawing what i want way too often and polishing all those turds, i think it is my "taste" getting "better" and being able to recognize my own turds, basically what i am trying to say is that i am going back to fundies instead of polishing all the turds, thanks for the advice

Im proud of that one But I havent painted in 4 days since then.. i just dont find joy in it anymore. I really really want to enjoy painting again, has anyone else been in the same boat and overcome it?

Try to stick to a minimum of 1 hour every day, which I've managed since the start of the year now.
Since I'm away from home for 12 hours a day I also try to sketch a bit while I'm in the train, sucks but it's the least I can do. It is hard, when I come home, I'm dead tired and when I wake up I'm still tired.
Luckily I have the weekends to make up for that when I manage to cram in an extra 3 hours each day.

>not keeping a spreadsheet

makes it a lot easier senpai, you can make it automatically sum your hours, calculate daily averages, etc.

also if you do it digitally there's a program called rescuetime which can just track all the time you spend automatically.

And to answer your question, yes, grind fundies. Do personal projects as well, but use them as an opportunity to put the fundamentals you've been grinding into practice.

IMO quantity > quality early on, don't rush but if you're spending hours and hours rendering a piece with shoddy foundations, it'd be time better spent learning how to lay good foundations. Not that I'm suggesting that you should never finish pieces (/ic/ has many compulsive sketchers/studiers who never finish their own projects), just remember that spending hours rendering one poorly drawn piece won't hone your drawing abilities as much as drawing, say, five pieces and rendering your favorite.

if youre a hobbyist, one of the easiest ways to never get good is to force yourself to do it when you dont feel much like it and forcing yourself to draw things even when you dont feel like drawing them so you end up getting burnt out of the hobby as a whole when you still suck and quitting. its a hobby for a reason.

if you want to set a program up, id recommend hitting the ballpark for how many hours/day you want your program to be and seeing if youre happy with that before actually bothering to design said program. another easy way to never get good is to spend so long planning how to get good you dont actually ever draw so you will never get good.
