How many years have you spent on learning to become a person who does art for a living?

>> No.3037287

>>3037284
Since early teens, so 8 years or so. Nowhere near tho, gotta keep getting better!

>> No.3037288

>>3037284
About 2 years.

>> No.3037296

>>3037287
wtf were you doing for 8 years if you're "no where near" now?

Being a teenager, cool guy.

>> No.3037343

>>3037284
Coming up on 3 years, not even close though

>> No.3037362

must have taken me something like 8 years if you don't count all the time drawing stupid shit as a kid when I really had no idea what I was doing

>> No.3037738

Took me 5 years to go from "I want to do this for a job" to getting my first big studio position, and then another 3-4 years to reach a level I actually think is decent.

>> No.3037741

3 and half years from start until first internship.

>> No.3037746

4.5 years since I started from scratch.

This year I started accepting commissions and already made 2.2k USD.

However I'm a 30ish old fag so I'm still uncertain about art as a way of living but I will keep doing it nonetheless

>> No.3037827

post your work that you can post without being associated to anyone

I've been taking it seriously 9ish years I guess. Time flies.

i'm nearing my thirties and i make good money freelancing. i can tell you that it's absolutely possible to make a good living doing this. but you might have to do stuff that's not fun all the time. either way hope a little encouragement helps.

>> No.3038275

dropped out of uni in 2013...

not reliant on it yet, but i got my first 1k commission this year.

still sucking though, majorly. :/ hopefully another 4 years will see better results

how do you get attention as a freelance artist? Where do you find clients that'll pay you big bucks and how do you motivate yourself to keep working for other people?

>> No.3038736

>>3038727

Sadly. Big bucks just dont exist in fl illustration.being realistic.

And secondly. Youre gonna have to find a really good art college if u wanna get ur foot in the door, talent etc.

>> No.3038741 [DELETED]

>>3038290

I have friends that get 2-5k so yes in comparison, and that 1k isn't regular at all

>> No.3038744

>>3038736
lol i would definitely argue with that. If you're at the top of your game you can totally do well. i.e, i know someone offered 3-5k for their pieces

If you're medicine though, yeah you're going to have a hard time

>> No.3038746

post. your. work.

and your friends' work.

>> No.3038750

It takes atleast 5 years to grow a business.

Every successful fl artist tofay has a bacholars degree in illustration. Getting gud is one thing, but making sure people know who u are is another. Trust me. Theres a reason why only a few makes the big bucks. And they dont like competition.

You can probably find work as an artist with just a couple years of studying.

But it takes 8 years of serious study to become a good artist.

Takes a lifetime to become a great artist.

It takes something special to become a master.

2 years but I spent most of this year fucking around with girls and being distracted lol

>> No.3038922

Just got my first job in graphic design to make money while I try to draw. It pays shit and my boss is a dumbass but it's alright.

Hell naw, everything can be reverse searched. :D

The only way my work is getting on ic is if someone else posts it - hopefully in one of those "this concept artist is a shitty hack" threads so that I can tick it off my career goals list lol.

I'm just getting back to it today.
