Art with a political message?
What could possibly be the point in that?

why are you comparing classical art with some hamfisted painting that's literally beating you over the head with its message

>> No.3025614

>>3025610
>implying those classical pieces are any less hamfisted

>> No.3025619

>>3025610
when those pieces came out they were as obvious as ops example. its funny how we consider somethign like Delacroix classical art but when he was painting most people considered him a sort of heathen

Partly because of the popularity of political cartooning in newspapers, but also because of the Social Realist movement. When you have a horizontal composition with a simple visual message, it puts the idea in people's heads but it also makes them keep looking. You got it, but it kind of stunned you, so you immediately pass it on to someone else continuing the cycle.

Vertical images are more slight, and consequently they go through our heads much more quickly. You generally want to avoid simple subjects in a vertical presentation unless you're depicting motion.

I would prefer that an artist understands and cares about art itself. a lot of good art is political, probably more now than ever.

i don't want to see political art made with little taste or knowledge regarding art itself.

i would rather see someone dump a trash can on the floor and call it a political piece than something like pic related.

One of the few markets where illustrators can still sell work is for editorial art, which is what that is. And, considering the media is overwhelmingly liberal, liberal biased art has a larger chance to sell, or get the attention of editors and art directors. (That's not a judgement, it's just reality)
