3019616 No.3019616 [Reply] [Original]

A month ago I posted my ink cell drawings on /ic/ and got some helpful critique from it.
Meanwhile I started using watercolors and pens. What do you think, /ic/?

I don't feel particularly "good" artistically but I am getting better with handling my brushes and pens. I am also practicing figurative art in the form of sketches so I get some actual skills.

I will take that as a compliment.

I'm mostly inspired by organic structures, skin, diseased tissue and also a faint sense of genitals. I want to merge abstract beauty with a subtle recognition of something not being actually there.

I like them. I think they are more like sketches or studies though and not fully complete. I can see reading some of these as objects, like flowers or organs , but also maybe as landscapes if you filled out the space a bit more. I like the ambiguity that is suggestive like a cross between Georgia O'Keefe and H.R Ginger. Keep going

Dude I caught vagina like right off the bat from all of these.

They're okay but aside from Georgia O'Keefe already having the name as vagina artist, vaginas are like literally the first thing any feminist artist draws to make any kind of statement (I know one who combined them and similarly shaped insects which was cool and a unique spin on it).

I've literally made drawings that look like these before even just doodling dicks and vag.

You have a nice touch with your lines and the color, but it's boring, predictable, and unoriginal. That's my opinion.

This is very noticeable. Your art makes me uncomfortable as fuck because of that.

I like >>3019624 and >>3019626 because I can actually recognize something in them (a cross). The other pieces I find a bit boring, because of them not really hinting towards anything (like >>3019632, >>3019631, >>3019628, and >>3019636). They seem like images that belong in a biology book.

I do think your use of colours and lines/shapes/etc is very well done though.

I could sense menstrating vagina the moment I looked at it. You have successfully managed to repulse me if that was your goal then good job? Oh gosh, now you made me blush, anon.

I know I can not be the next Giger. I feel like I'm still stepping too much into his footsteps. I need to find my own aesthetics but that will take time.

>>3024636
Funnily enough, some of my leftist friends really loved these. But they were the ones who are into dark imagery as well, so yeah. In this postmodern time it is impossible to paint something that looks like a vagina and have it NOT be associated with feminism. So I chose to not make it about the a sense of pride presenting the female organ but about a sense of dread. Since I'm just beginning I'm still experimenting a lot and for some paintings it worked out and for others not so much.

The stuff that is sometimes exhibited is atrocious in some cases, yeah.

I have not tried yet to reach out to galleries etc. but it is definitely I have in the back of my head all the time. I am working on gathering enough things for a portfolio. As I said, I started in March and everything before that is not close to what I want my name associated with. Depending on how my next projects will look like, I might considering contacting galleries or my university to ask for an exhibition.

Also, just for completion's sake: Here is what I made last month before painting with watercolors. /ic/ told me they were boring and I should mix it up and make it look more 3D - so I expanded my techniques and the results were better.
