My advice for what it's worth.

Tackle a smaller project (or multiple smaller projects really) to get your feet wet a little, and begin to understand the process. One in which you don't mind having a large disparity in quality from chapter to chapter, as you'll improve rapidly as you start to learn a lot of ins an outs.

Once you've gotten to a professional-ish level, then focus on your more serious content.

This helps you in a variety of ways. One, it gives you that much needed experience in a no pressure environment.

Second, it gets content out there, and this is never a negative. Sure, your content will look like shit, but you can ignore the /ic/ shitposting against you when you're potentially building a fanbase, and all the while knowing this isn't even what you're really serious about. It's not your baby, so who gives a fuck if people take a big dump on it. By the time you're good enough, you can really WOW people with something really awesome.

Finally, you build a portfolio. You'd be surprised, but there is decent bank in comic making. Showing people your accumulated works is a great way to draw in people who are willing to pay you to turn their ideas into a comic. There are many people out there with "this great idea for a story they got," who are willing to commission people into doing it for them. This also gives you an edge over other artists who although might be better than you at drawing/painting, they don't properly understand the ins and outs of comic-making. Moreover, comic making is great as it forces you to break your comfort zone constantly, and it teaches you to create strict workflows to meet deadlines. This is also great for once you build a decent enough portfolio to present to professional publishers, as they frequently outsource work toward freelance artists to meet deadlines.

Bonus points if the projects have viralability.

Why would I shape an landscape panel like that if nothing dynamic is shaping the page to justify the angle?

>> No.3007615

Even if the first panel is supposed to be peaceful and calm, it still looks pretty boring. It's just a generic landscape with a dull composition and no distinct mood. The jump from panels 3 to 4 doesn't read very well at all, I have no idea where the whooshy thing is supposed to be in relation to the faceless ladybug. If it's supposed to be passing right by the ladybug then it doesn't actually looking like that.
>>3007602 is really an improvement in composition. It has a more interesting composition for the first panel, and actually shows where the whoosh is in relation to the lady bug. Aside from breaking the 180 rule, it reads much better.

>> No.3007618

I chose it because it made the next three panels a gradual enlargement of what was happening which builds suspense, and also makes your background look more dramatic and eye-catching

That's non-chcken. He's doing every line in a single stroke.

What you're misinterpreting is he's doing multiple single strokes each line. That's fine. The purpose of sketching is find out where the line should lay. But each line should still be one fluid stroke.

A lot of beginners see sketches and all those lines, and think they should make a bunch of little lines, or what we call chicken scratches. It's such a common noob mistake it's got its own name.

that's just an actual rough sketch where he's trying to find his lines. you'll also see that the average line is a lot longer than yours.

in your image it's the opposite, you have decided specific lines but you can't commit to them the same way like you did with the hair lines for example.

drawing wise some places read like they're flat. like everything from the stomach down and the face and hat.
the gun seems like a wet rag with the way she's holding it, especially her left hand.

-the flatness is a problem.
-you could benefit from making the gun more impactful. like using engravings or giving it some shine

I hate it when people do shit like this. It drives me up the fucking walls.

Like those spastics who make the collage images comparing how Riot or Blizzard or whoever ripped off from somewhere else. When will you people get it, NOTHING is original. Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. The more original something seems to you, the more obscure the source of inspiration was. You show me something "original" I'll show you 10 people that did it first.

Luke Skywalker is literally Flash Gordon in Monk Robes

The Matrix is GitS lite, which itself is a copy of Blade Runner, which ITSELF is an adaptation of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which itself was inspired by various works of Isaac Asimov

Evangelion is a mash-up of Akira and Gundam

Both Sephiroth from FFVII and Alucard from SotN are inspired Elric of Melnibone, who derives from Dracula, and Nordic Traditions of the Dark Elves. And Dracula is an adaptation of folk lore passed around surrounding Vlad the Impaler, a Romanian King

The list goes on and on and on and on. I could do this shit all day. Back in the day, people used to be more endeared to stuff that was obviously inspired by other stuff. Like how Snake is a copy of Plissken, and it then payed reference to that. As "imitation is the highest form of flattery." Nowadays, people are so fucking cynical, they just gotta nitpick at every little thing that reminds them of something else, all the while not being aware of the fact that it's impossible to escape popular culture, and create something that isn't in some way inspired by something else. Even if you think it's not, you're still gonna be taking from something, as you don't exist in a vacuum. The worst part of it all is that the people who this sort of shit, will happily eat up mainstream tripe like capeshit and SW and Nintendo, and pretend like the it's the apex of the medium, and the most original shit to come out, all the while being totally unaware of what inspired all of that stuff

But 2 characters that are from the same show which these 2 instantly remind you off. It looks just like someone put Finn into a robot body ( he even has a white hat, or something which resembles that), the PB one is less obvious but you are quickly reminded by the color of her hair and how it flows. The main problem is that as a pair they easily remind you of Finn and Princes Bubblegum. The girl one her own doesn't as much.
But to be honest, the white head with ears is the most obvious one.

This is my personal take on it but I feel as far as I don't write my own characters similarly to them, it'll be OK.
That being said, I do plan on tweaking the boys design a bit. Nothing too drastic, just giving his monitor more color and possibly changing the shape/ placement of the nubs. Normally I wouldn't have an issue but it seems to be distracting.

Pligiarism being rampant in the industry doesn't make it remotely OK
You can't just take the most prominent element of a characters design (two in this case) and claim it as your own

>no screentones
screentones used in any non-traditional manga are an eyesore imo. they're not essential by any means. op could do better to do some value studies though..

>left to right
if you write your comics right to left as a native english speaker you should kill yourself immediately

>your panelling is very boring
gonna agree on this one. op's definitely playing it a little too safe on paneling, especially where action is occuring.
op, comparing your page to this >>3007638 is a moot point. all your panels are about the same size, so my eye isn't drawn to anywhere in particular. the comparison you posted is a 2-page spread where a single panel takes up over 75% of that huge space. my eye is forced to linger on that huge panel before wandering to the smaller ones, not only because of it's size, but because of values, flow, ect.

you've clearly got a long way to go, so try your best to learn from your mistakes instead of declaring your paneling "good enough" when you've barely even left the starting line.
