If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

First, I can't see the form very well, because of your poor shading.

Second, your anatomy is awkward:

Her neck's origin at the neckbone is wrong
Her thighs don't match
The muscles of the hip are wrong.
The lower contour of the left leg should not stop at the crotch, it would continue into the buttock
Her arms are too small.
Her calf on the left leg (raised) is wrong, she has no ankle.
Her bellybutton feels too low.
Her left arm is just poorly drawn.
The pose makes no sense - is she hanging from the drapes? If so, there should be tension on the drapes, and on the right, there is none.
Her hair is poorly done.

Stop worrying about drawing from the shoulder - it's fine for large, sweeping lines, and filling large areas, but for details and accuracy, draw normally with your wrist on the table.

The way to break habits is to do something different. Walk around your town, draw things like sculpture - graveyards are a free source of materials. Go to a zoo, draw animals. Just break up your routine.

If all their critique consists of solely measurement comments or a lot of "x is off" you might want to be wary. If someone tackles something deeper than the surface (insight on how to blend, lighting advice, or how a certain fundamental concept works) that's when you know you should be listening. 1. It's a sphere. So at this level you should be using solely a round brush for this type of blending, as well as following the form of the object so it doesn't look flat. "Follow the form" as in feeling like you're molding a sphere with clay with your hand (with your brush)

2. Either take more time blending or lower the softness of your brush to 20-40% when you blend so your transitions will look less jarring. Right now it looks like shit.

And for fucks sake draw with your shoulder when you do anything circular. Draw 100 circles a day as a warmup.

I don't think this is the right way to do these studies, but I start by trying to block in colors like in >>2987505. However, I always find myself having to zoom in both the painting and reference to capture any more detail. The problem is when I'm zoomed in that much, my process boils down to just being a copy machine, wherein I'm just trying to mimic this narrow window of colors and values as opposed to seeing the broader picture to help my understanding of the subject. Basically, I don't think I'm learning anything from doing this other than getting more familiar with my tools.

I won't go into measurement errors because you can use your own eye to work that out but look at the thumbnail. Huge difference in values. Like a retarded difference it's not even close. You need to set your color picker right next to your ref, use it to choose your value, and paint over the ref with a brushstroke to see if you got it right. If it's wrong do it again until it's right and block it in. Also what helps in determining values is blocking in the background as well since it's a little dark and painting on a lighter canvas will mess with your perception of values. Also there are weird things like unrendered eyelids that make it look flat and symbol-y. All around take more time on it.

When you're copying colors and values the trick to remembering hoe you did it is to watch how the color hue on the color wheel change to other hues. Also, see how much the colors desaturate and how much they go down or up in value. Really when you're studying colors it boils down to is knowing how to strategically place a midtone, shadow tone, and light color, and then you put in all the extra rendering later. Reflected light, highlights, and textures are the last steps so if you get the 3 initial tones right, everything else will work.

For a beginner, not bad - but I'd strongly suggest looking up gesture on youtube and practice that daily. After that move on to anatomy proportions. I'm not an art teacher so I can't say for sure, but it looks like you are using forced perspective to compensate for not having an established foundation for proportion. If it's any consolation the two hardest and largest steps are anatomy proportion and learning gesture. Beyond that everything else is much easier.

Other than the skull, everything else are bad habits if you move too far in that direction.

Try and do gesture for 30 minutes a day for about 2 weeks then do 30 gesture 30 volumes from then on. There are probably thousands of inexpensive digital lessons that will guide you on this. Please don't reinforce something that you will have to unlearn later if you are serious about art.

When exactly does perspective become forced? I thought you're supposed to incorporate perspective.
As for proportions I doodled this out. How fucked was the first and did I fix it?
I'm pretty sure I fucked up the legs, and in hindsight I did omit them from my previous drawing.

not an expert here, but as someone who doesn't know proportions, oftentimes what I do is just start drawing, and then as I make mistakes in the proportion I adjust the perspective I'm thinking of the form in to match the lines that I drew instead of getting things right. That's what I'd guess he's talkign about

The only stuff I think I'm decent at drawing are tanks and some vidya related stuff, but I'd really like to be more original.

finally figured out how to fucking work digital and holy shit is it annoying to figure out brushes. Also, fuck layers for now. All I had was 3 at the end and even then I was a fumbling.

Either way, it feels a bit more forgiving when it comes to mistakes and coloring. I'm not really able to work with colors since I'm worried about messing the entire work up.

I'm trying to follow Proko's videos and I've run into trouble...I cannot seem to picture at all how the boxes are from the side, specifically.

Should I return to studying something more basic? What am I seeing wrong, here? I can tell it's off but when I redraw it over and over, I still can't really nail it.
