Stop shilling, Volen. I respect you for your work ethic, but art is not an advanced science and you take yourself way too serious.

It's a pretty soft science...

Don't be fooled, OP. Volen's work doesn't match up with his words. It sounds motivating but it's mostly talk and no substance at this point. His work is mostly basic studies and lots of photobashing. You can find way better artists here on /ic/ who can draw circles around this guy.

Personally, I like Istebrak. Her range is limited but she's a good teacher and drills in the fundamentals on each of her videos. You can trust her word because she demonstrates to you how to apply them in her critique videos.

There's also Swatches, who seems a bit unknown. His videos are more geared towards the intermediate.

Then there's this guy Ahmed Aldhoori. Relatively unknown I think. He's not super good or anything but unlike Volen he can actually draw and shows you actually how to do it in his videos.

I'm still looking for more channels actually, so if anybody has more relatively new or underrated channels to recommend.

What if Volen's work is 50 times better than what he is showing now and it's all just an act down the road to get people to pay into some kind of mentorship?

This guy is what I don't want to be. Years of practice and he doesn't seem to improve. At first his video seems motivating but after a while all I see is him whining and giving advice above his skill level instead of doing proper practice.

Seriously, look up how long he's been doing this and then look at his latest work. I pity him desu...

I would be happy if this is true. If it's an act to get $$ then he would've stop A LONG time ago.

That doesn't make any sense. If he is really as good as you say, he'd advertise it to get more students. What kind of people would buy into his mentorship with the crap level artwork he has posted?

>That doesn't make any sense

Yes it does. A shit artist who shows you his shit progress then after a few years makes leaps and bounds while sprinkling motivational advice over the years. That's a nice way to build up an audience. You can't just go on youtube, good or not, and expect people to just hand over their sheckles--you'd be tutorial boy #2857528. But someone who connects with you in such a way, that's ingenious marketing.

People that do this motivational guru thing in art are just talentless hacks. He should be giving tips, techniques and insight instead of yammering on about living on ramen noodles.

He's been at this for what? 8-9 years? It doesn't look like he'll be decent for another 8-9 years.
