Why bother learning to draw, when you could be learning skills that'll allow you to survive once modern society collapses in mere decades?
Why not focus on learning to grow food, developing connections with your neighbours, and staying strong? Rather than focusing on a skill that demands isolation?

I sometimes think why I started to draw instead of knitting. I would have several dozen comfy, salfmade socks and pullovers by now.
Instead I have some lines that kinda look like a human when I don't mess up again.
Can't say that I regret it though.

I'm still convinced that chilling on the couch in a comfy, self knitted set of clothes is one of the greatest feelings imaginable.

Because when the inevitable wasteland warlords take over post apocalyptic society, they'll need someone to design the sick logos for their war rigs, amongst other things. Guess who's getting all the fresh pickles for their excellent work after my boss comes collecting your weekly tribute, farmer boy?

Because art isn't something you choose to do, it's something you have to do.

How convenient it would be if we didn't have to breathe oxygen, eat food, drink water and sleep. But alas, it's something we need regardless of how troublesome it may be at times.

I mean, if you really wanna argue over trivial details, it's more like eating or drinking. It's something you crave and look forward to, then you binge as soon as you've begun.

Taking a shit is just something you do to get it over with.

See? Pretty trivial details to be nitpicking. Either way, the point is that it's something you need to do and not so much something you do out of boredom or just because it sounds like fun.

Yeah, that's just you being pretentious. Imagine if some godlike entity told you "hey, I guarantee you a healthy, long and successful life, but every time you draw / paint / sculpt / something, you're gonna lose 10 years of your lifespan."

And that would be the last time you'd ever pick up a pencil for anything art related again. That's how much you "need" to do it.
