James Jean. The guy is an incredibly skilled draftsman and creative as all hell to boot. I love how he draws upon and incorporates a variety of sources in his work ranging from Medieval art to pop art. I take a lot of inspiration from the flowing quality of his linework.

I personally like some elements of his stylization. His faces always end up looking kinda wonky and elfy but I really like how he draws such organic things with such blocky lines. His implementation of graphical elements into his art is also something I like about him.
I agree with you that he isn't even close to the greats like kjg and I think an element of my admiration for him is probably because his skill seems achievable. There's kinda different tiers of inspiration for me, like I look up to some people on /ic/, low level pros, people like sinix, and then the greats as well. You don't have to be the most skilled artist ever to inspire people imo.

hard to favorite a single artist, I'd say that manga is the biggest influence and what I'm aiming for as far as style goes. My goal when I draw is for my lines to be clear, easy to read, expressive and ideally to convey a story. Even if I love more intricate stuff like Franklin Booth, it's not what I'm after

I have too many i enjoy from every century but I always find myself looking at the pre raphaelites. They have such a beautiful style, mixing between the romantic ideals of medieval times and a gritty realism.

I just recently was looking over this painting. It's hard not to love everything about it.

I think I have a favorite artist for every part of a picture, I love Rembrandt for his lighting, I love Bouguerau for his colors, Beksinski for his creepy atmosfere, Junji Ito for his lines, etc, etc.

But If I had yo choose one that was the closest to what I want to achieve, I would have to choose Keith Thompson. His conceps are just too good, I love how diverse his ideas are but they stop just before being alien. He also seems to have a great understanding of history and machinery, so his concepts are very believable

I don't think I could ever pick an artist to be my absolute favorite, theres to many for me to pick. But there are some artists who I do hold a special place in my heart.
1. Mark Ryden - Pushed me more into surrealism and developing more of a realistic style. Plus, I love how he draws his girls/women.
2. Naoko Takeuchi and Akira Toriyama - My childhood right here. They actually inspired me to get into drawing/art. They were also my first gateway to discovering anime before the internet.

Shit, I take a lot of inspiration from many different art styles, but the one style I frequently fall back to is the semi real anime style. Like, the kind you would see back in the 80s/90s. I love the hyper detail they would do back then (pic related).

I don't even know why i'm attracted to her stuffs. To be fair her lineworks are pretty crappy, but there's *something* about it that makes it look endearing

Sinix got big inspiration points I think because of the he got reasonably good in a short amount of time. He started out doing horrendous anime and Jhonen Vasquez stuff, so seeing him come out of that in about 8 months is pretty encouraging to a lot of people.

While I can't find anything definitive I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised that the reason you mention both Sargent and Leyendecker is that in some fashion Sargent was certainly an influence on Leyendecker.

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm always on the lookout for seeing influences of fantastic artists.

Personally I enjoy the work of Frank Frazetta, Milt Kahl, Erich Sokol, Bill Tupper, Budd Root, and a plethora of others. Many of which I can't name right now but their art is unbelievable.

I honestly have a lot of artist that are a big inspiration to me. Wesley Burt, Karla Ortiz, Even Mehl Amundsen, to name a few. However, someone I always come back to is Rien Poortvliet, he was a Dutch illustrator and dear god he could draw. I owned his Horses book as a child and back then i spent many evenings crudely copying the drawings of it. I got decent at drawing horses through it I suppose and somehow retained that knowledge. I wish I could've met him, sadly he passed away in 1995 or something. He described himself as a drawing storyteller and published some books with his drawings and paintings on varying subjects, lots of animals. I own almost all of them, working on getting the ones I'm missing. Pic related.
