Statistically, we aren't.

If you fail and you try your absolute best, that's okay. If you make it, that's great. Be more realistic and less reliant on fluff phrases like "we are all going to make it."

Only a tiny minority of /ic/ will ever make a living at art. Most people here will wander off to other pursuits, get married, procrastinate endlessly, or give up.

I've seen it before. I used to post on conceptart.org back in 2004-2006. Everybody was way, way, way better than me, and waaaay better than the general skill level on /ic/. I saw them all give up and fall away, while I kept chugging. Only a few people from back then are making it now. The rest are gone. Really talented, hard-working, determined artists that just gave up and did something less intense.

You never make it. You have to keep making it, over and over, forever. Most of /ic/ gets angry when someone says 8 hours a day is a minimum to compete.

thanks man, real experience is always welcome.
By myself i never took art seriously and my odds are even worse to try now.
I always liked it but i'm aware that i don't love it enough.

What counts as """making it""? Is it earning enough money off your art to live ie. being a professional? if so then I already made it

Making it is more than just money or being a professional, making it means coming to beginning of your artistic arc.

You have a strong grasp of the fundamentals, form and environments, you aren't perfect but you can only improve from where you are. You can learn things at your leisure.

To Make it is to be artistically mature, style isn't something you need to make your pictures appealing, it is something you use to express and engage the viewer of your art.

Unlike 90% of /ic/

Just look at guys like Dave Rapoza, Mitch Mohrhauser, Carla Ortiz, Josh Godin, Whit Brachna, Lake Hurwitz etc. Those are all people who started on CA and never stopped.

what does it even mean to make it, I don't care about selling art just using it as a basis for 3d modeling. If I do that is it considered making it?

Make it as in make it towards your dreams/goals/etc. It's just shortened because it applies generally.

"We'll all make it." pretty much means everyone will surely reach their individual goals.

what you need is a goal

whatever, something to keep your attention focused

once you accomplish a goal, you have to make another one, or that the one you accomplished to a new level
