Susanna Clark is the wife of famed songwriter and musician Guy Clark, and according to the story, her and their friend and fellow songwriter Richard Leigh wrote the song together in about a half an hour.

The quote itself has often misappropriated to another of authors, including Mark Twain, but the earliest known written form of it comes in their song “Comes from the Heart”. The song itself is beautiful.
