can you guys post non-representational paintings you like? I'm trying to get into it. I like how they evoke moods without showing anything.

This painting by Whistler is representational, but caused outrage when it first debuted because critics thought it looked like nothing more than paint slung at a canvas. Whistler sued one critic for libel and went bankrupt in the process.

This art is such a meme. Like what's even the point it's just a bunch of random bullshit. What emotion can you bring out of it?

>hurr durr this is blue now you feel sad lol i such a artist :^)

At least Pop-art wanted to "stick it to the man" in some edgy pre-teen commie way.

Your lack of understanding of everything you just spouted an opinion on makes me sad.

Why would emotion need to be tied to representation of objects? Do you really think that color doesn't affect emotion? That brushstrokes can't be calm or anxious? Abstract works can't be somber or playful?

Do you really think pop art was just about "sticking it to the man"? Have you thought about any of this?

Yeah, they were the 50s or 60s or whenever's verison of edgy commies who wanted to stick it to capitalism or whatever. Not to mention CSI PsyOps and that bullshit.

These guys are hacks who can afford nice paint who have a network of art buyers that sell off paintings for laundering money. You just got baited by the artful bullshit they spouted.

It was about consumer culture and the commercialization of art, as well as celebrity worship and the line between fine art and popular culture.

But tell me more about commies and the emperors new clothes, or maybe say something about sheeple or universities brainwashing our youth or a jewish conspiracy to destroy western culture.

I'm not even a fan of Warhol or most pop artists, I don't like the way his work looks. But I do think it was a clever commentary on the art world at that time. Oldenberg was ok by me though, and artists that bridged the gap between pop art and expressionism like Jasper Johns.

That's ridiculous. Like any other self-respecting /ic/ poster I think """abstract""" """modern""" """art""" is bullshit, but this painting clearly had a lot of thought put into it.

There are distinct forms, but they can be interpreted many different ways. The colors are reminiscent of a landscape, but the way they're used and some of the shapes make you doubt that it's actually depicting a scene. It's almost dreamlike. This is how you properly do non-representational/abstract art and I hope that critic died choking on a dick.
