have you ever seen a drawing where the shading style was what you wanted to do, but didn't want to simply copy the artist? how do you comprimise with inspiration and just plagarism?

is this where construction comes into play?

i haven't. i've only worked using real life references and just broke things down anatomically and did basic constructions. when i see another style that has its own lack of perspective or proportions i get lost a bit.
