by the way, they are trying to make the game as pretty as possible while not using much GPU. This involves having lots of foliage with extremely simple textures and colors, but advanced lighting and lots of meshes.

From crysis and tw2 you see that hypertextures don't add much to the game, as most people cant see all the colors even on max settings. Nintendo had already jumped on the bandwagon for simple graphics at this point, since the wii itself had a very shit GPU and they had to make skyward sword with simple graphics.

With the witcher 3 having to actually downgrade its textures in order to run the game at all, nintendo really had an easy design decision ahead of them with the new zelda: Lots of foliage, simple to no textures.
