Why can't the japs draw male faces right? The lines are too thick, the curves on the eyes, cheek, jaws, and nose are far too sharp, the hair looks shitty, the lips and chin are wrong, there's always something wrong with anime males. Compared to their beautifully stylized female counterparts, male characters in anime are always ugly. What the fuck is their problem?

Because male characters are usually created with a young/immature female demographic in mind, and young females like feminine men. For most, the strength of jawline (etc) you prefer increases with maturity.

Because Asians draw Asian ideals, Asian men. Just look at male Kpop idols (yes I know we're talking about Japs) and the faces they put on magazines. We may think it's too faggy, but they sometimes say the same thing about western machoism.

There's also the fact the the people who usually draw men usually draw for women.

It's just different cultures.

Also you should be asking why they can't draw *western male faces. A stereotypically attractive Japanese man has sharper features and a more tapered jaw. Just google Japanese man; almost none of them have chins, which is consistent with their cartoons.

I think there are a bunch of reasons. I think the main reason is that the ideal asian face is not as attractive or interesting as an ideal caucasian. For example, just look at almost all anime. It's basically the art of appropriating western facial features into a vaguely asian look in terms of the history of the art style and just the variety of characters they create with it. If they stuck to the limit on aesthetic variety that comes with asian genes all their characters would look the same. I think this carries over to artists who paint more "realistically" as well.

If you look at their ideal male, its' basically a combination of the best of both asian and caucasian features but not in a realistic sense. By that I mean their asian/caucasian mix does not look like a real half asian male. No race of human has the exact combination of features that make up their ideal aesthetic. So in a way their faces aren't "wrong" they're just so hyper ideal that it's weird.

Most "beautiful" people look mixed to a degree due to their "racially average" features, of course there are exceptions.

Aesthetic white males drawn by westerners aren't fully white looking either, you might not be able to tell if you're white, but as a non-white I can tell. They often have features of other races mixed in them. The best looking white guys I've met didn't look fully white, but often were mutts mixed with a bit of black, native, or asian blood.

I think Urasawa is pretty good at stilyzing people. They are more realistic than most manga but still very stilyzed.

Also bear in mind that asian males are as an average more feminine than western males. Their features are never as pronounced as the western male.
