Post your current drawing here and provide helpful criticism and advice to others!

This is not a thread to discuss your autism, the rest of the board is for that.

Please make sure your posted image is clear, DOWNSIZED TO AROUND 1000 PIXELS WIDE, ROTATED TO THE CORRECT ORIENTATION, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one and then kill yourself.

I'm aware that the anatomy is abnormal. Just wondered what specifically bothered you. My intention was that the lower arm is foreshortened with an angle towards the viewer. I get it, but it would be easier to draw and read better if you changed the position. but if you want to go with it anyway, you really have to draw a cylinder cut in squares and pay attention to proportionate measurements.

These are really nice designs, particularly your full character ones are spot on. The thing I notice that could be improved was the construction of the faces in side views. I think >>2812436 meant the tangents your edges make. The red lines point out the major tangents in your drawing. The rose and coat are aligned together, tangents bushes objects back in space making the rose part of the cape and not in front of the cape. not much of anything it's rather nice, but you made the lips big, which is fine, but her actual mouth, like the opening, is placed too low.

i morphed this with my mouse so excuse it being kinda sloppy but this would look a little more natural. there's a thousand solutions to this problem.

>> No.2813223

>>2813182

This is good but I can see what the main problem is right away: you're skipping to the color part too early. You nailed the drawing for the face and that looks great (little lopsided desu, try flipping it and doing some construction lines on a transparent layer), but you rushe the drawing on some parts like her hands (hiding it in the hair isn't working) and her dress below her boobs. This technique where you get the lines right and then paint underneath them only works if you really put in the time on the lines first, otherwise it's starts looking blobby and you can't figure out how to proceed, which I think is what you're running up against here.

Like it tho

>> No.2813226

>>2812742

Best crit I can think of is to mass your shadows. You don't want blotchy shadow blobs all over the place; all your shadows should merge into a few big shadow shapes, and try to control your composition with those. You're painting your lights arbitrarily right now, with no clear decision on where the light source is. You REALLY need some harder cast-shadows, too - all of your shadows have blurry edges right now, which makes the whole piece feel mushy and vague.

Good shit overall (as usual). Fun design, great lines, and my god that pink reflected light. M'm m'm.

Mind the planted leg: both the foot and ankle appear a bit larger/thicker than their opposite despite being further away from the viewer-the calf also appears marginally shorter.

The colors and brushwork are top notch though perhaps a bit utilitarian in some areas. Consider filling in the rest of that shadow shape where her heel overlaps the contour of her shin and blending out or otherwise reworking some of those errant brush strokes by her gooch. While there is similar 'spackling' elsewhere in the piece those particular strokes kind of stick out as looking more like an afterthought than some of the others.

Anyway, I'm going to go think long and hard about this beautifully realized piece of art while I proceed to choke the shit out of myself so; until next time.

seeing how fast he got the thing down, and without any helping lines of construction was incredible.

I really started drawing at 25, so I say yes.
you have much more maturity and intelligence to get things down intellectually much more quickly.

The problem is that most artists never theorize anything, so they can't teach anything besides "just watch me do and do the same"

So you're much better off learning stuff that does have some good learning material, i.e. perspective, anatomy and color theory.
Actual rendering stuff and specificities, you need muscle memory, but better analytic abilities help.

Would that be a pose that a photographer would ask a model to make, and then put it in as a magazine cover?
No?
Why?, ask yourself before completing a piece.

If you still have prblems trying to crack down why, then I'll tell you:
It's boring. There is no dynamism (aka motion), the guy is just kind of there looking bored. then there is some dynamic perspective but seems like if the piece just gave up half-way into applying it.

It doesn't help that the line art is flat too, there is no shading at all.

First: Flip square 4 and 5 horizontally. Think about how someone would read the pages (left > right), so now it looks as if the dudes are going back and not forwards. It feels wonky.
Second: I would want you to go more extreme in some way. Either have a more rugged landscape (especially for the close ups). Or by doing the exact opposite and clean the image up like in the edit. Shouldn't the mountain have snow on it either way?

you're retarded if you listen to /ic/'s advice on pricing, most people here are completely ignorant.
your pricing should be based on difficulty time and material, then on your client history.
another thing: it doesn't matter if he's a friend. You don't want to rip off your friend right? But you don't want your friends to rip you off either. So a friend price is a fair price. And a fair price is what you should be charging always anyway.
So yeah, desu you could slash the price inthat case, but only if/because it took you less time than planned.

btw, >>2815902 is pretty good but once again you should have use a greater range of values, especially if it's a cover! that value range would be good for an inset, where you have text besides and you want a good illustration but that doesn't pop out too much.

You are trashing on perhaps THE most influential comic book artist who has ever lived. His contribution to the medium, especially adventure comics, makes artists like Eisner and Kirby look like second hand hacks. His art style is extremely distinguishable, well made and intelligent, not to mention that he is a storytelling genius.

He is a European treasure, and you are a uncultured faggot.

okay so usually when doing this stuff i draw it out in greyscale.
if you have the object lasso'd into it's own layer or what ever, hit ctrl+B to bring up the cololor balance and tweak it to your liking. in the case a reddish orange.

next thing you want to do is set your brush mode to overlay. set the opacity low and grab a soft round brush cause you'll be airbrushing over the object. use a larger brush for a smoother gradient.

arm on left is with the two color below it and same with the arm on the right.
additionally once you get one you like you can brin gup ctrl+U and get some variations and use the same airbrushing effect above to get them to your liking.
