Couldn't agree more OP.

Cancelled my schoolism membership, sold my tablet, and threw away all of my sketchbooks.

Such a waste of time. And for what? It's completely unnecessary and serves no purpose.
Art is not needed, especially in today's society where the intellect, personality, and face reigns supreme.

To be honest, the "artistic lifestyle" seems almost like a childish endeavour at this point, and I don't mean any disrespect, but it seems like the most serious artists (asides from guys who are legit conceptartists/illustrators/porn artists but they represent a very low % of dedicated lifters) are also the people with nothing else going on in their lives.
I know this was true with me, I was biggest and most serious about drawing when I was still in uni, working only 15 hours a week, and pretty much just plucking around all the time, going out, with no real life.
To all you kids out there who are getting sucked into the comerical art , try to stop yourself.
So long as you have and maintain decent facial aesthetics, you'll be fine.
Art just not worth it.

Cheers.

27 year old here. Aging has just made me more desperate to git gud as soon as possible, so I'm working really hard now. My art has probably improved more in 2016 alone than it did in the entirety of my early 20's.

Probably because I am actually thinking about what I am doing and approaching things more methodically rather than just winging it. So many years wasted just spinning my wheels...

While that's not necessarily true of any of the others here, my personal anecdote and experience is certainly a cautionary tale for you younger guys and girls. You can't take all of the time you spend shitposting on imageboards or playing videogames. The older we get the more we tend to become set in our ways and the harder it becomes to change our habits.

If I recall correctly our resident latin lothario Firez is a bit older than me but (unlike me) he appears to be improving relatively, steadily so good on him.

Couldn't agree more OP.

Signed up for a schoolism membership, bought myself a tablet, and drew on all of my sketchbooks.

Such a great investment of time. Why, you ask? It's completely necessary and serves every purpose.
Art is needed, especially in today's society where the intellect, personality, and face are traits.

To be honest, the "artistic lifestyle" seems almost like a wonderful endeavor at this point, and with all due respect, but it seems like the most serious artists (asides from guys who are legit concept artists/illustrators/porn artists but they represent a very low % of dedicated lifters) are also the people with everything else going on in their lives.
I know this wasn't true with me, I wasn't biggest and most serious about drawing when I was still in uni, not working at least 15 hours a week, and pretty much just plucking around my pubes, a shut-in, with no real life.
To all you kids out there who are getting sucked into the commercial art , I salute you on your journey.
So long as you have and maintain decent portfolio along with facial aesthetics, you'll be fine.
Art is just worth everything and more.

Cheers.

im 23, its not old but i give less shit about the age meme than when i was 13. being older definitely helps my art because i have better motor skills and its easier to learn stuff (i think its something that comes with time, even if you dont practice) and more life experience to work with. im at a good age because i am still young enough to be optimistic, have energy to work hard, and be idealistic, yet also have a healthy dose of reality, learn from some disappointments and heartbreak, and knowing that life doesnt last forever.

i'm 25.

went to college for a year. wanted to get into the film/game industry, but never went back to school after that year, because of the debt crisis it would bring. been doing my art for a good 6 years solid, everyday for at least 6 hours, let's be realistic.

starting to feel like a loser only because I feel like I've developed a skill to built art for worlds/games, but it has no purpose, it just sits on my Instagram and gets likes, like it's free for anybody to use. I see guys my age in the industry and I know I could be there doing what they do. why do I still attach myself to this dream? I don't know.

anyway, I have a career and it keeps me financially stable enough to live alone in a one bedroom apartment. I don't see myself ever stopping art.(I hate that word)

Alright, here's the bottom line

I cancelled my schoolism membership, sold my tablet, and threw away all of my sketchbooks.
