Comics are hard. If Ruanjia had to draw a comic, it would probably also look ridiculously bad. People underestimate just how much time and effort professional illustrators put into gathering references and finishing a piece. Not that comic book artists don't do that as well, but given tight deadlines, they have to be a lot more versatile and able to loosely use reference while drawing a lot of shit from imagination.

That's not how it works.
There's tons of weekly manga that look great, not to mention that particular manga isnt weekly, so he had ample of time and even for sketches this shit is downright putrid because it's sloppy and shows a terrifying lack of fundamentals.

It doesn't take a month to draw a hand proper.
Infact if you know what you are doing it takes not very long.
But the hands that akiman and bengus draw these days look like hands people who never learned to draw a hand in the first place would shit out.

>> No.2791352

>>2791331
No it isn't. Your anecdotal evidence is what's stupid because I assure you Terada is an incredible draftman who has done what you need to do to get good at drawing from imagination and sequential art. So obviously when you have the skills necessary to create good comics, you can create good comics. Doesn't change the fact that comics are harder to do than illustrations and many illustrators do not have that particular required skillset.

>> No.2791361

>>2791352
Thats bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit.
Youre right in the sense that you dont need to be a good draftsman to make a good comic, but a good draftsman can do a visually sound comic.
You dont suddenly forget how to draw eyes, mouth, perspective, hands and anatomy just because you are drawing a comic instead of a storyboard or illustration.
Akiman is clearly suffering from depression or drug abuse.
The point here being that the terrible paneling isnt even the issue here. The issue is that he forgot how to draw HANDS just like his friend bengus (who does only illustrations and not comics and had the same strange change in style)
The most BASIC shit is lacking here, anatomy, perspective. You name it.

You are talking out of your ass because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Akiman is a man who spent YEARS of his life drawing exaggerated anatomy, extreme perspectives and giant collages of characters.

This is a naive question, but i'm not an arts student.
I'm an accountant, and an arts enthusiast.
I'll answer based on my understanding.

It's not that they get worse, their reputation and praise gave them all the permission to do whatever the fuck they want. If you get popular for doing what you want, you continue to do what you want, regardless of fans/money. Even when want you want to do constantly changes.

Showing off is a young mans game. There's no need to show off if you've already proven yourself.

Young artists often seek the approval of strangers. as a result the things they create become generic and uninspired.
>t-they only like sci-fi OR fantasy right? That's how I'll prove myself..
>that new thing i saw was soo original, If I copy it, I'll be original too!
>I painted this photo on ONE layer with the HRB,.... in 20 minutes.

When you switch from seeking approval, to loving the craft, you stop caring about this stuff. This has binary outcomes that toggle depending on the mood of the artist,
>the art quality increases exponentially
>the art quality decreases exponentially

It is worth noting that this isn't the same thing as the sloppiness that comes from mental strain and overwork. though it could be a contributing factor.

You've probably already stopped reading, and that's okay. Regardless, there is more to be said.

Art is a trade, like carpentry or architecture. It is impossible to get objectively worse at a trade that is practiced constantly. You either stay the same, or improve.
>if you get good, you will always be good.
>if you are bad, you will remain bad until you get better

>> No.2791524

>>2791521
(2/2)

...That being said, it may seem like a direct contradiction, but the concept of 'artistic average' comes into play.
The artistic average is what determines the quality of an artist in the eyes of other people.
>putting out low quality work = low average = low-tier artist
>putting out high quality work = high average - high-tier artist

If I'm personally shit at art, but spend 12 years making 20 god-tier artworks. everyone will think i'm amazing, and theoretically i'd be pretty good by the end of it.
But if i'm a highly skilled artist, and i put out 50 shitty pieces in a row, I'm still a skilled artist, but everyone will think i've gotten worse. Even though I haven't actually declined in skill at all.

THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE, is illness. Parkinsons, dementia, etc.

if you've gotten worse there's two reasons:
>either you weren't as great as you thought
>or your understanding of something has changed, and now your approach is outdated.

The second one happens a lot in education, and the first one is something i've only seen in amateurs.
