Fuuuck reddit is terrible. These idiots think it takes a decade of 12 hour practice tp get to Jakub Rozalski's skill level.

atleast they have a better idea than the idiots on /ic/ who make threads like "How do I draw like ____? Thanks." or "what do you mean it takes years to draw like (insert my anime idol here)?!! WTF!"

Because it is? What the fuck are you talkin about? Peopel in top art school work 8 hours per day. Plus after classes most of them spend time in workshop

That's 43,800 hours. Not even Ruan has that much. Rozalski probably draws 30 minutes a day.

If you know what you're doing you can get at that level within a year, you don't even need 12hrs a day for that.

Most people are fucking retards when it comes to drawing though so they don't study up until after a couple of years when they notice they are still Shit.

Good god, this. Once you start combining construction and anatomy with observation and memory drawing in a way that is productive, you start to get massive returns with much less work put in.

That hit a little close to home.

>decide to "get serious" about art 2 years ago
>draw every day but rather half-heartedly
>basically doodles every day somehow deluding myself into thinking that I'm actually studying
>still shit after 2 years
>realize that I'm a fucking dumbass
>actually fucking study and try to understand, focus entirely on trying to improve, only increasing my drawing hours slightly
>improve more in the last 2 months than the last 2 years

I fucking hate myself up until now

None of you guys must work professionally.
It's not uncommon to work 40-60 hours a week or more as a full time professional artist, especially as a freelancer.
That translates to '6-12 hours a day'. 12 hours is definitely not unheard of when you first start out.

Do you need to do 8+ hour days to get good in the first place? Not necessarily, but it doesnt hurt to put in that work and will prepare you to work at a professional level.

Stop obsessing over how many hours it takes to improve. It's going to vary person to person and how well that individual knows how to take in information and teach themselves.
It's pointless to speculate how many hours x artist has been drawing.
Some people could do 12 hours a day and get good in 6 months, other people could do the same but end up taking a few years.

Regardless of your skill level or rate of improvement, if you can't consistently work 6-12 (more often around 8) hour days then you won't make it, purely because you won't be able to handle the work load required.

Who knows, maybe some of you guys can magically get everything done in 4 hours and manage to make a living. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to.

See it as a good thing that people are easily impressed, anon. I started drawing this year and people think I've been drawing all my life now. It's not really a bad thing because you'll get more followers.

Ruan Jia has been drawing professionally since he was 17, and he's like 32 now. so i think he does.

sure, but only if you're already like 4 years into this and suddenly start drawing 12hrs a day instead of 3. from zero, you won't get anywhere near that far in just 1 year.
