What's the point of practicing gesture? Why not just copy from reference?

What's the point of even drawing? Why not just take a picture with your cheap Obama phone?

Understanding gesture is useful whether you are creating things out of your head or if you already have reference material. Subtly tweaking poses to emphasize certain things and downplay others is a very important skill if you ever want to create good art.

Practice makes perfect.

I see plenty of "referenced" work that sucks balls.

drawing from observation is like a muscle you have to stay on top of. If you get good at drawing the big stuff (body poses) then the small stuff like details will fall into place when you do longer drawings

I don't see the point in becoming totally dependent on images. It would be very creatively restraining.

>> No.2738194

Because then you can get the essence of a pose down much more accurately than if you painstakingly try to copy it. It's interpretation/understanding of the source material rather than just merely making a copy.

What's the point of your shitposting? Why not just hide a thread that you're not going to contribute to?

You can combine different referencfes to create something unique

I don't think it's possible to Draw/Paint detailed Anatomy from memory, all the great master used reference every single time.

Lots of artists both living and dead have painted and drawn fairly realistic figures and anatomy without references.

Can you give an example of what exactly you mean with "detailed"?

actually, copy from reference is practice
