This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

not that anon, but I find the colors quite garish.
The clipart comes from the fact that you color basically using only gradients... no hue shifts, no brushstrokes, no texture.
Maybe simply try to paint in "traditional like" setting? One layer one brush. Get some sense of how to paint doing a master studies to make things simpler.

>> No.2711790

Not the anon you replied to but to fix it is to focus on what your overall idea is for the picture. The colors are all over the place in contrast and value. Some parts of the colors just look unnatural. The hair looks way too shiny in comparison to everything else. Same with the frilly parts of her leggings, they kind of look like they are made of glass. The eyes look bland/odd and needs more values to match the hair. I think the drawing just needs overall balance and a look at color theory wouldn't hurt.

except then you have to make a clear distinction between mileage and mindless drawing, which clearly doesn't exist.
I mean, in the examples I've given there's no issue separating the two obviously, but in some cases it might nit be that clear cut. you can do your exercises and get nothing out of it. then it would probably not count as mileage.

Anyway the point of that quote is
>It's all about mileage A lot of people try to look for shortcuts
and I somewhat agree, but artists also conflate "clear understanding and method" for "gimme shortcuts". Because they're not clever enough to put the principles down, since themselves just got them through mileage. I mean just look at most "courses" on the internet. It's just the guy painting and giving general platitudes.

no. that's what you do in at most high school, and disgusts clever people of education. It's less the case in uni, even if happens, and it's more because courses are crappy (stupid exercises are easier to conceive, explain, mark) than anything else.

I'd rather you not shit up a thread with your retardation. "The more you do it, the better you'll get" is sound advice across all boards. That is the definition of mileage. If we're talking about people who put in the hours and reach critical plateau, never to improve after years then that is the fault of them discontinuing their training half of the time the other half their inability or content with leaving their comfort zone.

flawed practice and discontinuing training are the same? if you want rather a sport analogy, don't you know people who just train terribly and thus don't progress that much? if you train badly, you're more likely to get injured than get muscles.

Then maybe sports just isn't for them. On the other hand if they keep playing sports and don't progress yet keep on doing it everyday anyway then you have to put into question if they are just content with their abilities. Maybe there is a possibility that they just love to play sports regardless of their aptitude to become a clone Usian Bolt?

However, if they want to win gold medals at the top they need to keep training. The same is principles applies to art and everything else.

you don't see how of two training regimens, one can make you progress fast and not the other? you resort to innate ability, or genetics, saying that most people can't be Usian Bolt. which is not relevant to the point, since I didn't try to quantify in any way the relevance of innate ability vs practice in artistic ability.

Still, you don't even address the point. You can train badly, and somebody comes along he's going to explain you a few things, bam, progress. You can put the hours, if you don't do it with some intelligence, you're going to make little to no progress.

Hows my bad anatomies?

>> No.2714088

>>2714014
This is an example of an unhelpful critique

As a general rule, the bellybutton should align with the elbows, but the arms in the drawing are misaligned, as is the ribcage, head, neck, and collarbone. In fact this drawing is mostly a frankenstein of misproportioned body parts in different perspectives. All of this creates a warped torso, perhaps causing certain things that are mostly in the right spot to look off.

The problem with addressing the bellybutton and only the bellybutton is that it is a minor, surface issue that doesn't help the artist in any way, and in fact could hurt them. If they took your critique to heart and moved the bellybutton lower, they learn nothing of how to fix future drawings.

Please, don't give advice on something that you think is wrong without knowing why it's wrong, or whether or not there is a more serious issue to address.

>>2710892
To the artist who drew this, it looks fine, almost passable. However, study how the torso. Moreover, study how the neck and the head connect. Everything that is wrong with your image starts with your lack of perspective knowledge and not knowing how to generally construct the upper body. One thing that will help you is to always draw the breasts after you have established the general shape of the ribcage. Drawing breasts first causes many painful structural issues that could have easily been fixed if you saved them for later in your construction.

is that your cleanup?

you're tracing all the lines exactly the same, a bit cleaner on the face

you're really lazy everywhere else, use references so you know what to do instead of filling space with randomness
don't overwork it, try to do the simplest way possible
construct the planes of the clothes/folding and you will understand them better

you need to realice how wrong bad readability those lines have, for that, use your hand or reframe the pic to only see the fore arm and the hand.

everyline looks the same, so important outlines of shapes do not read, as the outline of the hand in contrast to her chest looks the same as the contrast between a fold and the shirt

don't go opaque if you scribble that much

They're extremely exaggerated, to either you want to push a certain style, or you really don't see how it is the case. If it's the latter, take loomis or any head construction method and superpose the construction lines over your drawing.
Loomis is a circle for the cranium with a few lines cut at thirds and such to place facial features if you really don't see what I'm talking about.

I'm not a great at landscape crit, but here you go.

Multi layer landscapes like that are kinda crutchy. In addition, it seems you chose some of the terrain because it was easy to draw. Grass closeup, "ocean" and plateaus far.

As for meaning of the piece that's subjective, but are you trying to use the birds getting close + darkness to make the correlation that black people are worth associating with? Because I really doubt an infant would have anything interesting to say.

Im looking to start drawing smut and there's something thats been bugging me. Whats with the whole weird asthetic in anime style drawing where the male participant has gross colored skin and is all bony or sinewy? The skin tone is always dark and desaturated. Anons, is there a 'proper way' to absorb a specific art style?

Recently i'm shifting from environment design to characters, and I want to have a style similar to Shiyoon Kim, Mayumi Nose, Britanny Myers etc.

I have no idea how to 'absorb' this style just by copying it, is there a proper method of training that can help me? A schedule, something like it...

Everytime I draw I tend towards realism, so drawing this more 'cartoonish' style is more difficult.
