why exactly did ic start using the "am I gonna make it" meme earlier this summer? You all do realize that it's an ancient/fit/ meme from like 2008 coined by zyzz, right? It has nothing to do with art.

Making it has nothing to do with fitness specifically, or any other field. It's a bigger idea of success and achieving goals, so it's perfectly suitable for use here. Also it's been around as a term longer than zyzz and has been on /ic/ longer than just this summer.

It was never used on 4chan prominently until /fit/ made it into meme. then ic decided to use it all of a sudden is what I'm talking about. I just think it's mostly newfags

The same meme developed at different times by different boards completely independently from each other. It's kind of like asking the Mayans why they copied the Egyptian pyramids. The pyramid just happens to be the most stable, simple geometrical structure that several cultures figured out independently from each other.

"am I gonna make it" is the most stable, simple meme invoking the insecurity of failure and inadequacy in a particular hobby or profession. Also, the /fit/ meme is usually used in an encouraging way i.E. "we're all gonna make it." Whereis the /ic/ version is mostly used negatively as an insult i.E. "you're not gonna make it."

I agree op, its a shit meme.
Making it has no clear definition.
Some take it as making enough money to love from art.
Yet some people will still scream that youre a poverty fag if you dont make more money than a regular wage cuck.

Others see making it as the moment an artist has mainstream fame or respect and admiration from peers.

Its all bullshit.

Personally I dont think your initial art goal should be making money everyone should focus on what they want to create and then study until they can create it and if that means being just an artist for fun then whatever.

"Making it" in art is achieving Kr0npr1nz mode where you get shit tons of money and fame for doing portraits of anime girls

just like Zyzz made it by taking roids and dying from them

>you can only browse one board
>memes are fixed and aren't fluid/ can never change

You'd be surprised to see how many /fit/ic/ crossposters there are.

Both ideologies are centered around self-improvement, despite the crab bucket mentality that these places share.

It's just how an artist's life is. Hasn't and probably never will change about how it's talent.

Working out on the other hand. No talent there.
