Can I still git gut if I start now? Or is it already too late? I'm 32 by the way.

Is this just an /ic/ shitposting meme or is there actually something to it? I don't come here very often.

I'm not OP; I've been drawing most of my life as a hobby. There are still several aspects about painting and colour I have yet to learn, but I hope I have already laid the foundation in younger years to be able to learn it now at 30.

There is a book on brain health that I read that says adults can still generate new braincells and learn new skills. The only difference is you have to go out of your way to kind of force the process to happen by exercising and a diet that purposely increase the health of your brain

>neuroplasticity

It's funny how this meme is all the other way around.

People thought that after a certain age or after brain damage, you were fucked for life, but then they discovered the brain can create new paths to replace the older ones. That's neuroplasticity.

>go to work
>come home
>eat
>study drawing
>9pm
>watch some tv show
>go sleep alone forever
>wake up
>go work..

Once u get good, you will be like 35-36? Might be able quit your job and go pro, then go to some college drawing class, pick up some cuty 20y. So its possible.

For me the biggest problem is the awareness of how bad you are and comparing yourself to others.

When I was young I would just start watching a tutorial and learn. I was young so I had all the time and I did not have to compare myself to skilled people who were much older than me.

But now I feel embarassed to not be good in my age when others have achieved mastery by now and even earlier. I feel this pressure to get good fast. Every mistake I make gets me down. It's really hard to do exercises with this state of mind. I keep rushing them and losing focus.

>The adult brain is not entirely "hard-wired" with fixed neuronal circuits. There are many instances of cortical and subcortical rewiring of neuronal circuits in response to training as well as in response to injury. There is solid evidence that neurogenesis (birth of brain cells) occurs in the adult, mammalian brain—and such changes can persist well into old age.

25 here - seriously started at lets sayyy 22. Just starting to feel like im 'ok' but in the grandscheme of things im still bad. If your starting at 32 then imma just let you know that your going to feel mentally challenged since literally 10k+ people way younger than you can outdraw you. Its a big hurdle to handle imo, but you can get over it with time and patience...lots and lots of patience.

well, it depends. if you start grinding fundamentals as of right now, about 4 or 6 hours a day, you may be at least mediocre in 2 or 3 years and get progresively better with practice, theres no magic and no science other than what the masters already studied and left written in a book for your old ass. your problem is time, motivation and confidence, you are pretty mature and geting gud is time consuming you have to work so you can pay rent, you need to socialize so you don't feel miserable, you need to eat/sleep/shower so you can be healthy, balance is a bitch. also you DO have to evaluate if this is what you want, get motivated. and since you are actually asking this stuff on this board then you need to start building confidence, because that's low

>> No.2705650

Achieving mastery in any skill takes about 100.000 hours.

That's a hundred thousand hours. Not ten thousand, not a ten hundreds, but a hundred thousand.

If you work eight hours a day, five days a week, that'll take you about 33 years.

The good news is, you and I are likely to live until we're about 85, longer if we take care of ourselves -- and you're gonna get old regardless of what you do, so if you really want to get good, you might as well start today.

C'mon. The first hour is ticking.

I knew my math was off -- how'd you get five years?

re: comparisons... there's no reason to compare oneself to others. Would you compare a man to a woman based on who has the more efficient estrous cycle? Would you compare a bathtub to a shower curtain based on which one can hold the most water? Would you compare the ocean to the raincloud based on which one is the wettest?

Would you compare you to me based on who's fastest, or most able to hit the keys on the keyboard?

You don't get to choose what you think -- the brain's more like a radio without an off-button -- but you DO get to choose which thoughts you keep and which ones you smile and wave at.
