I do feel like it's just not skillful to just take your finished work and just flip it over for something else, be it another person or it's like one half of the person to make the other half look "correct". I've been in fault of this myself, so I want to actually be a good artist by not being lazy to redraw what I see so I can be able to draw something over again instead of being a lazy bitch.

I'll go under the assumption that you're not baiting

but a lot of my friends from college aren't anywhere near as good a lot of the decent posters here in /ic/ yet they have jobs as graphic designers and illustrators simply because they know what their clients want or employers want and they comply to it.

don't get me wrong striving to be a good artist is a great goal in which all artists should strive but lets be honest we work hard to be good enough to be hired and you don't get hired based on how good fundamentals are or how many followers that shit doesn't matter in the industry but on how you're able to comply to deadlines and demands of your clients

another thing in the industry you don't work alone you work with your co-workers while your art director may ask you for a drawn concept more than 5 people could end up working on 1 character alone constantly changing how the character looks until the art director is satisfied which could mean your hard work could easily be changed or completely erased just because some other guy worked on it or the director said no to it. the only time character designers can just draw and get in are usually veterans in the field and unless you've worked in the industry for a while you're going to be working with 5 or more people constantly editing a character and this is only for illustration
