The entire concept of OCs trigger me. I dont understand why people are like "this is my oc".

Literally anything you draw that is not fanart is technically "OC" so dont fucking blow it up like its something special. Whenever people go "MUH OC" I instantly get a "Wow, this guy is still stuck in the deviant-art/tumblr age".

your right in a sense, but if a certain character is re-occurring through your work, you may fashion a proper narrative for them and their reason for being, fleshing it out and making it more than just a common character you draw over and over.

think of it like this, most comic characters started out with a group of re-occurring designs. In essence, these where the original characters of the creators. This isn't true for all story's, but commonly the story is created around the design and backstory of the main character. I'd imagine that for the entirety of the comics creation, Mike Mignola didn't just call Hellboy "Red Demon Guy" but by the proper name he created for his character

so without "O.C's" we wouldn't have a proper narrative for most of the worlds stories

the line gets blurry when you directly insert your character into a pre-existing franchise. And not only that, but alot of people get stuck in the creation of a singular character. It takes a considerably larger effort to place the character in a living breathing universe of their own.

for me, I looked back at a character I created when I was younger and attempted to remake him better. He still is an oc, even though nothing will really ever come from it. It was more just fun to make

I don't understand why people get so triggered by imaginary characters. Literally every fiction or comic you've read started out with an author or artist who made a cardboard character design and then just took it further. I like it, honestly; the process is fun if you don't take it too seriously.

Though I don't really care for the people who shout 'plz don't steal!!!1!1' There's nothing original anymore and why would anyone steal your already done 1000 times over design?

Mostly I use pic related as a mascot. It's like Ronald McDonald to the McDonald's franchise. She's pretty much a discount bin Zone-tan. I am selling stuff after all, it helps a bit with the brand name. I can assume others are doing the same. Having a character they can point to as their image helps.

One of two characters, Lucia Kinderstar. but only posting this one, and I base all my work around them. The main project is making a kind of "adult" picture book based on her early life as a ghost hunter and her bonding to a vampiric wraith Named Kreios.
When not doing that I make pieces focused on their universe.

personally i find the whole system of building OCs is useful. Slap a basic character down, give them a background, build on the visual design with said background, and so on. I'm studying into character design and previz art, and making "OCs" is fun/challenging/stimulating process where you can come out the end with a zany ass loveable character or two

I've been experimenting with taking my freeform doodles and digitally cleaning up the lines and adding color. I'm going for a clearly handdrawn but clean look with vibrant, eye catching colors. Still experimenting with it.

It makes sense if you want to get into character design. Creating "OCs" then literally is your job.
Since I want to go into comics, I'd post character design concepts in threads like these. Figuring out how a main character should look, who they are, that kind of shit. It's feasible.

Like the other anon said, I refer to them as my kids because I made them. Also I see myself (and I usually am in groups) the "parental figure" so I tend to see most characters/people more like my kids. Like a mother hen?

But yeah, I especially call my OC's my kids because I'm essentially their parent. I made 'em and in a way I'm their parent.

Serious question bros: I have a character that I made back when I was an edgy teenager. This character is your typical "young girl that is actually supernaturally old and she has a kindof dark and moody personality with some edgy superpowers" And over the years I've tried to make her less edgy but still retain those simple characteristics (old age, youthful appearance)

Is this trope overdone to hell and back or can you make it work?

I text rp with friends or join rp groups which leads to me making ocs. Usually I make pretty masculine dudes but he's an exception. His name's Mitsuki or Miki for short, plays tennis, is an IT student and had a stroke as a teen (propositioned) so he's mute but trying to relearn it. Always wanted to challenge myself in writing a mute character.
He's usually my go to when I want to draw lean male bodies and flowy hair or any other self-indulgent stuff
