So I'm trying to understand how armor works for females in a more practical way. I want to avoid the boobs plates used for sexiness and try to make a design where the character stands out more than the armor but the armor still looks nice.

So I was wondering, what are examples of well designed female armor? It could be from any timeline. Preferably modern or fantasy.

Armor is armor. It works for females just like how it works for men. Practical armor for females would be just regular armor made in the size for a smaller framed man.

I had thought that but what about breast sizes? I've seen designs like in Destiny or Dragon Age Inquisition where there's a small bump in the breast area but I wasn't sure if that would also be considered impractical because if they land on it would it hurt them.

Like this one>>2630057

If she were to land straight on that chest area wouldn't that really hurt her chest? Even break it?

This.

First of all it should look good. Imho well designed female armor should also preserve the shape of the female form. If you draw just the armor and people can tell it's for a woman, then you did well.

>If you draw just the armor and people can tell it's for a woman, then you did well.

Doesn't that depend on the type of armor though?I also don't think you need to preserve the shape of the female form. Assuming you mean curves. For ex. look at the female knight in for honor. Armor doesn't show her curves but her size does the implications. There are also cases like Brienne from GoT or Spartans from Halo that don't need to show the form.

practical female armor:
>draw male armor
>give it a woman's head

Stylish female armor:
>draw a woman in a catsuit
> glue some armor pieces to it

Unless the woman has ridiculously huge boobs, it's virtually irrelevant considering plate armor by default leaves some pretty generous room between the wearer's chest and you'd be wearing a whole bunch of layers of clothes underneath it anyways.

Trauma plates mean that theres no bumb. This means that at least in modern body armour it should be somewhat flat.

Of course not every body armor has trauma plates and kevlar is somewhat flexible.

>Breaking her chest
Well war is a bitch and injuries are common. Also female BA is smaller than mens by a margin(google it)

But that's just male armor slapped onto a female. I mean it's realistic and that would be what would happen irl but 100% realism doesn't necessarily constitute good character design.

If this character were to fall on there chest or take a blunt force to it wouldn't the shock hurt the corners of her chest and ribs?

Falling on ones chest will always hurt. It might hurt less if armor has cushion in it though but even without it I doubt anything would break.

At worst you get bad bruises

He's right you know. How many times have you had a DPS, who is a woman, fuck up your raid? They should stick to healing and spell casting so that the whole party knows where they are standing at all times.

He is right though. US military has conducted studios which show that women are harmful to their units in combat situations due to plethora of reasons. For example men are likely to have their insticnts kicked in to "defend" the woman which hinders the capability to fulfill objectives.

Thats not even touching the fact that woman are objectively inferior to men in muscle mass. They cant carry as much for example which might not seem like a big deal until you MG runs out of ammo and you realize that if Jane was Jack you would have had 500 more rounds to defend yourself with.

Theres also the logistical problem of hauling pregnant women out of ships/warzones not to mention the costs to the armed forces

You are generally correct in regards to the real world, but remember, OP is asking about female armor design. So what about women in highly specialized (fictional) roles? Like hostage extraction or assassination.

Having said that, it's important to consider the story/role of the character especially if you want to have some kind of believe-ability to their costume. For instance: you're designing a female swat officer in a completely realistic setting. Her uniform would look the same as a mans, but depending on her role her equipment would be different; a sniper would not necessarily need a bulky ballistic protection helmet that would hide the feminine characteristics of her face.

Of course, in an un-realistic setting, none of this really matters, good example for that would be ghost in the shell. However, even then note how each character's design reflects their role.

>>2630635
Yeah I wasn't thinking army per se, more like tactical forces/swat for women.

Also GoTS isn't a good example because while a woman that's robot body.
