What is art to you?

For me it's atmosphere, the essence, the feeling it invokes.

Capturing a moment in time, whether its a real place with real people,an unreal place or even the sensations the artist felt creating the work. Only so much can be made, only so much can be grasped and forced into medium out of thought. And that's what you leave the world.

I love art for the new information it offers.
Could be life-changing revelations, or spectacular scenery of an unimaginable world. Or it could offer some kind of catharsis with my Mommy/Daddy issues, or romantic misadventures/blunders. Art is personal. But it can also be given mass appeal to make it an interpersonal thing. Art cool dud

Am I doomed if I don't feel anything from art that's not photography?

Like when I see that picture I can't look past the fact that it's made with paint, or when looking at digital art that the mechanism of production appears to me first...

The Athmosphere, the reality, the sensations ,the feeling, the message, or the signature feeling .

I want ot take my pain .my depression, and make it into an art, even if its something totally unrelated to depression, I want it to ooze the vibe and when you look at it , feel me , feel my pain .
I want it to be real ,and also unreal, maybe a surreal representation with a realist basics, like a dream or some sort.
But first and foremost, depression and pain is what I want to take on paper\canvas

Csontváry is who inspired me the most, the colours and the way he used gave me a feeling , a signature from his life and the way he seen it. His paintings always gave me a strong unique vibe.
>pic is one of HIS paintings.

For me Art is anything created in physical reality from the human mind. Just as a painting is art, I believe that a roll of toilet paper, a road, or even plastic packaging, are art. They may not be particularly "good" art, but they are art none the less.

I do not classify anything in the natural world as art on it's own. A totally natural forest is beautiful, but it is not art. If someone takes a picture of the forest, or paints it, or plants their own forest, then that IS art.

Don't care about that guy, listen to me. What is appealing with paint is that it is basically just a person pushing colored paste around on a surface and somehow it ends up looking like something. And sometimes it doesn't just look like something, it's like looking through a window and seeing a world. A world that doesn't exist in reality, but it comes from the mind of the artist, the imagination, literally another world outside of our own. The imagination is the closest thing we can come to an alternate reality and painting is like making a window into that reality that other people can see through as well.

This is just a hint btw, there's a lot to say about this

Same thing as you, OP. "Meaning" is secondary and reason has no say in it - art is feeling, and the heart is its home.
Something that sucks you in, makes you feel emotions you normally wouldn't be feeling. A song that makes you cry, an image that makes you feel like you're lonely. That is art.

To me art is anything that is a combined effort of Passion, Work, and purpose. You have a passion for something, and you work to make that passion become what you want it to become, and what you create has a purpose in it's creation. It may be to invoke a feeling, provoke thought, or to just get sad fucks like ourselves to jerk off. But there should always be a purpose behind every work. There is always a passion driving someone to create something for whatever reason, and it takes hard work and dedication to a passion to create a true work of art. This is a thought that has constantly been in the back of my head, and i'm glad i get to share it with someone, even if i cant see you.
