It's only cartoony to get it through your head what it means to think in 3D and the concept of forms on a flat plane.

Right Side of the Brain should take you one week top so it's not like you're wasting your life on it.
Just skip all the nonsense yadda yadda of the author, skim through the book to get the important ideas and do the exercises (she took them from older authors anyway so don't worry that her voodoo stuff will get to your right brain).
Don't spend more time on that book, it's here as a first step and nothing else. Then throw it in a fire.

Or just skip it and read directly Keys to Drawing. It's very structured, there are more exercises, each chapter ends with a one-page resume of what you've just learned. A good read, I wouldn't skip that one.

If you're bored by Perspective Made Easy, you may try Perspective! for Comic Book Artists, it's explained in comic book form much like the Scott Mc Loud's books.

Loomis first book is kinda dissapointing, hard to understand, structure is confusing, style is outdated...
I learned a lot from it so I'm biased toward it despite its flaws.
What could replace it? It mainly teaches construction, so... this book explains the Reilley method, an alternative to the Loomis method:
> Mastering Drawing the Human Figure From Life, Memory, Imagination: with Special Section on Drapery
The method itself has a good reputation. The drawings from the teacher in that book are kinda "meh" but it's not important.

reiley method on it's own doesn't work that well, it's more like something to advance your figure drawing once you can already do it, it's hard to find any resources for it as well. Try Figure drawing for artists by Steve Huston, that's some good shit.

The War of Art might help you stop wasting your time and draw more seriously.
