How long have you been really drawing? As in taking art more seriously than art class in school.

>> No.2439045

About 17 years I think

Took my first proper art class when I was 14. Gesture drawing. Didn't know shit about the subject, and I was the only one there who wasn't old enough to have grandchildren.

Started preliminary artscool at 18.

So there somewear I suppose. Can't pinpoint the exact moment.

I would say about 1 year. I've always been drawing before but only last year did I actually start to actively study and focus on improving. It's still just a hobby for me tho, I needed a replacement for piano because I moved and no longer have easy access to a piano every day (makes me extremely sad since I have put 15 years into that).

been drawing everyday since september 2014 when i was 18 thinking as long as i did some doodles everyday i'd get good. i started putting more hours and focus into it in November 2015, and i've been doing around 4-8 hours a day (should be doing more). so i'm 20 now and around 5 months into starting seriously

1 year, intensively.
I tried drawing my waifu, failed miserably as a complete beginner, started reading books, studing the shit outta fundamentals and anatomy.
So far i'm pretty mediocre and comissions aren't exactly raining but I keep going for it.

Can someone please explain this CURRENT YEAR meme?

1 year come April 26th. I've made solid progress, I see people like guweiz claim three years of drawing and I pray

Saying the current year is this ad hoc arguement to make your opponent look out dated or archaic. For example "its 2016 and you're still not a vegetarian?" Makes vegetarianism seem modern and forward thinking.

I've been drawing for about 3 years. I have made almost no progress at all.

Bit more than 1 while studying/practicing fundamentals.

2 years and a half month or so. What is so interesting about anons giving you a number. This thread couldve been more interesting

>> No.2439210

about a week, assuming by 'serious' you mean 'full time'

I've been doodling for years tho

It was a year in February, but I need to up my game a little because I feel like an hour or two a day isn't cutting it anymore for noticeable improvement. People who started at the same time as me are starting to overtake me.

>> No.2439216

>>2439213
yeah, you do need to up it. According to Feng Zhu, hour or two won't get you anywhere.

I haven't started

I need to up it for my own sake, but I don't really care what Feng Zhu has to say. I have no professional aspirations.
I just noticed that results for time spent start to taper off once you get a handle on the fundamentals, and it takes more work to get a similar return as far as noticeable improvement goes.

That'd have to be the second - third year of high school, where I kinda said fuck it, I'ma be that guy.

I was drawing before even starting highschool, but never had to make a choice between drawing and social life , spent the first year and a half trying to be the cool guy and do stupid things to fit in.

So somewhere around 2002-2003 probably... 13-14 years, on and off.

>> No.2440059

About four years since my first real, comprehensive art class. I still fucked around a lot there though. Maybe six months since sitting down and studying hard every day. Should've done it earlier, this is both more fulfilling and relaxing than video games after work.

I'm terrible, but the progress is noticeable.
