What kind of music does /ic/ listen to while drawing?

>> No.2243713

Some notshit music or some podcasts.

Usually whatever some faggot is blasting at max volume in his earphone, I usually just listen to podcasts otherwise.

funky stuff to keep me bright with non-english lyrics so I don't get distracted. I've tried a lot. I listen to math rock too but it can get depressing.

I mostly end up drawing in silence. I don't like using headphones while drawing. Background noise and people talking is no issue to me

If I do end up listening to something it would probably be some slow doom metal like Earth 2 or something

Podcasts when I'm sketching. If I'm doing work that involves coloring/shading/rendering I'll listen to music.

Sleepycast is the best background noise and I'm glad they're coming back on Halloween.

>> No.2245380

Nothing during thumbnailing phases for important projects
If I'm just sketching then usually whatever fits the theme, eg: movie OSTs for fantasy doodles, electro for sci fi.
When I'm doing something long and tedious like detailing then I'll listen/watch random youtube videos on the side.

I usually just work in silence, which plenty of folks don't enjoy BUT I think more people should try it. If you manage to work in complete silence for 1-2 hours your brain just sort of shuts off everything but what it needs to draw; you get into this sort of funk where you can work 8 to 10 hours straight without feeling it.

Depending on who you are, this is absolutely true. I tend to get lost in music, it's absolute poison to my productivity and it very well may be to yours as well so be observant and self aware (I wasn't until recently and I'm still trying to work up the willpower to give it up). Some people are able to pull it off, I was a member on Adam Phillips' SFX course website for a while and he disagreed vehemently with that statement - he's one of the better independent animators I'm aware of so I don't take his criticism lightly.

However, if you often catch yourself day-dreaming while you listen to music like I do almost without fail there's no hope that you can progress and enjoy music at the same time.

I've been trying to do less lyrics stuff. Even though I don't feel like it distracts me, apparently there's some actual science behind it fucking with you as you draw, something something language center of your brain and the part you use for art being related so it splits your focus whether you realize it or not.

I usually don't listen to music, more like I'll put a movie on netflix and sort of let it run. I find that psychological horror movies or rambling tv series like Supernatural or xfiles or something tend to be the best.
I think I just like hearing people talk while I work.

I used to be huge big fan of Aphex Twin. Listened to an album of Tim Hecker too but his music gave me a depressed, doomed mood. The only thing i listen to from that genre now is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. tracks like the CoP ones, I just loved that game https://youtu.be/niZqC0WXNUw?t=197

Now I just listen to playlists with funk https://soundcloud.com/aloeislandposse/ntwicff

I usually like to just listen to directors commentary on my favorite DVDs while drawing. Gives me ideas about approaching a certain scene.
