>there are people on /ic/ that spend more money on art supplies than they make off sell their art
probably the same people who think they get better at drawing when using "quality" tools.

>> No.2211335

You can't get to the level you need to be to sell your art for money without spending money. smh fam

You definitely should stick with the grittiest cheapest shit you can for quite a while though. A simple mechanical pencil, typical 2B pencils they use throughout the public school system and office paper should keep you adequately supplied for some time. Drawing should be fun too though so there's nothing saying that you have to be a master to use color and better materials either (which you will have to practice with for some time as well anyway).

Thank god I'm not a chucklefuck who can barely afford anything because he thought a career in art was a good idea.
I'm glad you make enough on your art to pay for the shit you made it on, maybe next month you'll be able to afford rent too.

Yeah, that's right. People spend their disposable income on things they enjoy. Fortunately for some people, they have a disposable income.

ITT: OP reveals his bitterness about people richer than him buying more/better art supplies.

Nigger who cares what sketchbook they're drawing in, all that matters is that you keep your eyes on your own page and git gud. Stop being so insecure, it's time better spent learning.

I enjoy the act of drawing, and don't have any plans on selling or publishing my work anytime soon. Using a nice pen or your favorite pencil on good textured paper is like driving a luxury car for me, the act in itself is enjoyable, even if the end result isn't that great.

I feel ya. Just got an artists grade watercolor set after using scholastic (not scolar/student, I'm talking crayola grade) set for a year. Even though it's just a mini sampler thing, I've never had more fun. I have had it for almost a week and have made at least 3 paintings a day, which is a lot considering how busy this week has been. Next week i will do even more

Better tools will make your art look better, but they won't make you a better artist. That's what practicing is for.

technically speaking, buying a stack of printer paper and a number 2 is spending more money on art than what you sold if you never sell your shit.

though i do agree, some things are absolutely retarded to blow money on because it wont make you better and you are throwing your money away.

There is a huge difference between off brand student grade oils and professional quality ones. Van Gogh barely sold any work during his lifetime. Do you think he should have just used a number two pencil?

I don't sell work mainly because I'm a student. If I didn't buy oils though I would never learn how to use them in the first place.

I usually buy somewhat quality paper to draw but I use printer paper at art class (since it's just there) and it's not bad I mean it's just a study also moderate quality paper isn't that expencive either. Also tfw sketchbook on your way home with the bus drawing stuff it's great.

>> No.2213833

>>2213638

Nope. I'm someone who also has ambitions of getting paid for my work, but I'm humble enough to realize that some people who do this as a hobby are better than me.

You should learn to separate what you want to be with what you are, because I sincerely doubt you're pro and think you should shut it until you get there. The fact that you want to be pro won't compensate for your lack of skill.

That is, unless, you wish to prove me wrong.
