Just a question for /ic/ in general but how many of you have actually been exhibited in a real established gallery and if you have, what did you submit?

oil paintings on canvas

I've shown in a coffee shop, a small room attached to an art store, a co-op, and currently have a show in a library. All watercolors.

I've still got a few years yet before I'd be ready to try to show in a gallery. how does the gallery scene work, behind the scenes?

I've exhibited in museums and galleries. My work is contemporary leaning on social practice by way of sculpture. I also studied traditional art and have an MFA and BFA. I make a living in the art field. My best advise, peruse the art that makes you complete, be it glossy pinups or conceptual theory based works.... And become the best. The world will follow. Art Galleries approach you, shopping your portfolio is a fools errand. Museums approach galleries, rarely do they approach individual artists... my two cents OP, Good luck from and Art OG.

This, showing work is an ongoing social engagement, you need to make yourself visible and available for when the opportunity arises. If you are into salon style hanging and don't mind being hung right next to something that may or may not jive with your work, depending on where you live, there are galleries in small towns all over that function more like consignment boutiques and take portfolio submissions.

I'm still here anon, since I'm not wageslaving in the afternoon. I figure I'll take a walk, clean the house a bit, and then hit the studio.

kiddie certificates and exhibitions in the "under 16" section of Family Fun in the Park 1998 don't really count as "actually exhibiting in a real established gallery"

Renounce your artistic degeneracy at once. We can't all have a busty black sugar momma to wax our Big White Cocks and let us make 1/3rd of the minimum wage selling mongoloid art to drunk rich retards while she covers everything else. You're ruining people's lives by propagating this base crap and worst of all on some level you beez knowin' it, nigga!

I've had a few collab expos in coffee shops and libraries, I've edited and been featured in an art fanzine, done some mappigf for roleplaying games and am currently delving into scenic painting for movies, last one I did had a whole set covered in graffitti designed and done by me. I'm no graffitti artist but it the director liked my work.

Most of my work is either ink illustration, watercollor or woodcut prints.
