basically I was thinking about how people copy and replicate photographs and other images for study purposes. I think it's fine if you're going for realism or something similar but there's nothing like anime/manga in real life, so why not use really good drawings as study references?

I think copying anime when you have something very specific to learn is not a bad practice, but i've discovered that
copying high quality figures from all kinds of different angles is way much better, stock up on those loli figures lefty and miku.

thanks man. Yeh I noticed a lot of those errors when an earlier anon mentioned it. i've been doing a lot of hands and feet sketches 9which is paying off) but i think i'll switch to gesture drawings for a bit since I haven't been doing enough.

The lighting is still new to me though. i'll need a lot more work with that before I get where I need to be.

I'm not really sure where to ask, and this thread seems kinda heated but I may as well ask since it seems relevant.

I don't really have an interest in drawing actual humans or real life objects. I really want to draw anime characters, especially but not exclusively loli characters.

I've tried asking and learning from artists that mostly do that and I have a vague idea but I'm not completely sure I understand how to practice.

Would the best way of trying this to have an understanding of human proportions, study features of the face and human body and how they work (and how they can be simplified while maintaining a style rather than errors on anatomy), copy from reference of both real life humans and anime characters, then slowly modify images from reference until I gain a style of what I perceive would be the best way to draw each feature?

Learn the basic principles, no need to go too in-depth but don't fuck up proportions like making legs shorter than the torso etc, then learn gesture, gesture is very important for any kind of style, becomes loose. After that study style, one thing that really helped me as i said above was anime figures, buy high quality loli figures and draw them from all kind of angles, see how the face and proportions get distorted in perspective tec.

I think I'm getting proportions right, the bare basics of it. There was a page in a Loomis book and a guide floating around /a/ with a similar look at it which helped a lot. Perspective and gesturing is messing me up pretty hard, I'll have a look into the figure thing, that actually seems pretty interesting.

I just want to draw lolis. I've been drawing for about two weeks + a week of doodling shitty animus like pic related. The sticky helped me ridiculously and reading through "drawing on the right side of the brain" made a huge impact on my ability to draw

I'm going to go on to Loomis soon and learn the difficult stuff but I doubt I could understand how to draw without the very base fundamentals. After that I'm going to work my way down the sticky until I can practice more anatomy and proportions specific to lolis. I think this is probably the best course of action

Worst comes to worst, you waste 2 weeks of your life and can probably draw real life shit to a decent degree. Hell, maybe you'll even fall in love with doing other types of drawing
