That mouth looks like a hideous bastardization of something Chris O'Neill would do and the rest is really fucking juvenile and unappealing. I'd say a good cartoon style that is original is harder to make than realism, because most of those cartoonists actually know how to draw realistically and simplify it from there into something simple yet appealing.

My big tip would be to learn how to draw realistically, cartoon on the side, and make something that isn't really unpleasant to look at with lazy detailing and color choice

If you said you were new to the arts and posted that asking for critique, they would've somewhat nicely pointed you to the beginner thread, and told you to ask there.

Asking there would give you the same advice I am going to give you now

>Learn to draw. And no that doesn't being how to put a pencil to paper, I've seen your deviantart and you have a long way to go. It means learn how to render real life with a pencil and paper. Learn about light, forms, value, shape, everything. There are some great books on the sticky provided on this board. It's a lot of work if you want to be good. So don't expect going and saying that your style is the end all, to be received well. Get good at what you do, before you harness it into your own "style"

Your style looks a lot like David Firth with a lot of the stuff I am seeing. I think you can do a lot better than that.

Pick three artists you like, get a picture from each and then just study them. Try to pick up things you like about their work and learn it.

But don't forget to study structure too. It's very important if you want to develop unique looking characters.

You can still have your own style while knowing the basics. I mean, think of Picasso. He didn't just paint cubism without first being good at realism. You don't have to learn differently to draw differently.

If we insist on keeping this thread up I'd like to use it for good rather than evil.

I'm not far off from OP in terms of artistic ability. I can do anatomy, structure and perspective well but nothing really close to real life. Most of my work comes off as cartoony and strange, but not ugly (at least based on feedback I've gotten.) I'm interested in improving but I don't really know where to go, since I've looked at Loomis and have tried his exercises.

Usually when I see people actively trying to 'develop a style' they're shitting up their work by finding some arbitrary criteria that they chose will be their style, rather than drawing what they want how they want to.

Just let it happen. Observe what you like, consider what you like about it, and consider how you can do it. Don't just dick around trying to find a style for the sake of finding a style.
