So a friend of mine thinks I draw well. That's nice of him, but I'm modest about that sort of shit. Anyway. He asked me to paint a picture of Castiel from Supernatural. Now, I'm not going to lie. I've never even watched Supernatural! Who in the Fuck is Castiel? That angel guy? Whatever. Sure. Okay. So I started sketching him out on paper, to get a feel for what he looks like before I start fucking up a canvas. And I just CAN NOT get this right. Looks like a guy. But certainly not Castiel. I'll post a reply with my version.

Idk can you guys help? I know his head could be a little "squat"-er. Because, to me, Castiel has more of a square head than a rectangle. And his eyes could be more toned down. I'm just so sad he's not what I want. I've failed my friend!!!

Also, just tracing usually doesn't do the trick. It's better to enhance certain features of a person to actually make it recognizeable- a bit like a caricature, just not overdone

Are you drawing from a front view photo? Unless you do a ton of studies of the subject you should probably draw the same perspective as your reference

If you do just the outlines, it's most likely not going to look the guy. Maybe if you go more stylized, you can get the right personality in it, but try values.
