Old masters also tried to paint ideas and concepts that aren't necessarily their own.

OP's thread is dumb though. Most effect on emotion isn't necessarily better, since some emotions which aren't as "strong" as other emotions aren't necessarily worse emotions. Many emotions which are of the finest sublimate qualities are often controlled and not passionate.

Dunno, just for the sake of it I guess.

Also, because I think it would be cool to see female characters designed according to plot and situation instead of nothing but sex appeal to grab attention and titillate.

It's gotten so stale by now and pretty much just insults the viewer by saying: "Hey, I know you're too primitive and stupid to appreciate a non-generic character that actually makes sense, so have some tits and a tissue to wipe the drool off your chin."

Everything is about maximum realism all the time, but when it comes to this, let's make her walk into battle in a metal bikini or some other bullshit outfit that would fall apart in a second or just get her killed.

I mean come on, we can do better than that.

But it wasnt on the topic. The thread wasnt about how artists may, or may not, portray women, it was about the differences between digital and traditional art.

You brought politics to this thread for no reason at all.

In a way it sort of was, since the cheap quick attention grabbing through sexualisation is first and foremost a digital and especially internet age thing. Sure, there's erotics in traditional as well, but nowhere near as generic, redundant, cliché and mass-produced boring as in digital.

Apart from that I don't think talking about stuff like that is going to hurt anyone, and one can always ignore it just like any other bullshit post and move on.

Not that guy, but I don't see the point of female characters in combat roles at all.
Realism isn't an argument againt skimpy designs, because if the setting was realistic, there wouldn't be women in combat roles in the first place, especially in a melee setting.

>>2131806
>Everything is about maximum realism all the time
How retarded do you have to be to believe this? There is virtually no realism in fiction at all, whether it's gaming, movies, comics or TV. If you think an arcade style game like CoD is realistic because the graphics are, then you're pretty fucking stupid.
People also seem to ignore that the settings that rely on skimpy designs for women, have equally ridiculous designs for men.

The funny thing is that I've always loathed these designs, but feminism has actually made me defend them. The problem is that they're shallow and immature across the board, not that they're sexist.

You probably think that storytelling/''''''emotions''''''' can only be achieved , exampl; when a guy/gal stares into the sky with a blank/weird expression or whatever.

really. I get the narrative, and there's nothing wrong with it, but it isn't novel or impactful, and the technical flaws are glaring enough that they draw focus away from the narrative. if you arbitrarily draw the focal point brighter than it should be, you're not enhancing the narrative, you're just taking the viewer out of the image by creating a technical flaw. there's nothing wrong with a little subtlety.

What movie?

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. It's a really well animated film (very realistic movements and whatnot, it's not super exaggerated or anything), and uh, how do I explain it. I went in thinking it was a cool badass action flick, but it's not. It was surprisingly deep, it had slow but deliberate pacing, and was pretty heavy at times. Very good though. Takes place in a post war alternate history with political turmoil.

It sucked because the story was shit, the outdated CGI didn't cause that.
