Use a guide to make the horizon line (pull the line from the ruler that's outside of the canvas). Zoom out and take the pen tool, make a path with two points, and use the Direct Selection Tool (looks like a white arrow) to put one of the points on the horizon line (make sure snap to guides is turned on). Move the other end of the path where you want the line. Then use the Line Tool to draw the line. Move the point again to make another line.

Speaking of it's kind of a shame that the Prismacolor pens work so poorly with the Prismacolor pencils, I sometimes end up lining the entire drawing twice basically because the pigment in the pencils go right over the lines, they become dull and faded. I've also had trouble with the ink lifting off with the eraser, only one that seems to work well is a kneaded eraser.

The whole thing with depicting characters with genu valgum (knock knees) and pigeon toe is like the illustrator's red nose syndrome; it looks ridiculous.

You get the impression that the character is feeble, sick, and weak. If you're trying to capture Samus Aran, I'd go with a more dynamic and action-oriented pose. If you're just doing a blonde in a bodysuit I'd still go with another pose, try looking at classic pin-ups.

One problem I see is the design of the legs. Both seem to bend in the same direction, which is strange. Also, the forelegs bending like that really goes against the balance of the creature, so the gesture doesn't work. Also, this way the armor presents huge openings to very vulnerable spots directly to the opponent.

tl;dr: I think going for a more centaur-type body would do wonders for this.

I like the devil, the dude is horrible and in dire need of anatomy and values. Unless he is supposed to be melting from the fire.

Also, organize your light sources, remember objects drop shadows, and make a choice on a consistent style for the whole image, it kinda looks like you put two different images together.

I guess you didnt use any references, if you did then there are little excuses
>le van gogh floor
>pure blacks
>few pure whites
>glowing crystal that only affect rocks
> flat and saturated demon
>perspective need obvious leaks to be readable
>dat pose where arms and legs going 90ª, rigid as fuck
try things you can acomplish

If you can't tell what's wrong you have a longer road to go, conscious incompetence is the first step to get better

keep the ambition anyways, you should check /ic/ sticky thread, there you'll find good material to learn how to develop fundamentals

Thanks for the critique! There were references but nothing in those poses, basically just pictures of those characters and a top down view of a dungeon map for the background.

Obviously I do see a lot wrong myself, but it is nice to have someone who knows more point out flaws themselves like you have. I don't necessarily understand what exactly is wrong, whereas you see it and make a list. :)
I admit I definitely dove right in and bit off more than I could chew, but it was fun at least. I am in the process of looking through the /ic/ sticky thread right now!

To fix stroke-delay, get better pc or work on smaller document.
Also are you sure you need all that canvas? I do fine with 3k as maximum dimension.
If you really need more detail somewhere and can't do it with zoom then extract and enlarge the part, detail the fuck out of it, resize it back to original.

Also what do you need all the layers for? :o

Don't be afraid to work on original pieces without reference alongside your studies, even if you know you won't quite pull it off.
It's fun, it will keep your will to draw alive, and it will make it clear to you in which areas you're struggling.

It's a loooong road ahead, don't worry about everything being perfect

>>2117573
PS is unusable for me, the bitch uses up 1gb on my hdd for a sketch on a single layer, and is slow as fuck. Give clip studio paint a try, I'm working on 10k x 10k with no issue. The only thing I'm missing is the color layer mode, though I never bothered with filters, so your mileage may vary.

That being said, once I finish up The one I'm on I'll defiantly think of doing a bundle of a ton of fruits, but tighter with less detail and even more focused on color. Since as it is, these are taking 20-30 minutes on their own

Study how color works. Why are you using these colors specifically? Really think about this. Why the blue shadows? In what context would blue shadows occur? The kind of colors you picked wouldn't happen in real life. Think about what kind of light setting would create different colors on your subject. Don't just pick randomly. Think technically. Think about reflectivity, the nature of the shadow being related to that of the light source, different types of light and different types of shadows that go with them, chroma and value relationship, light interactions, etc. All of this applies even when you try to go for more "artsy" colors. A lot of photography deals with colors you don't necessarily see in everyday life. Try to think about the way the photographer manipulates the light in order to achieve them nonetheless. Photostudies are useful if you don't just copy the picture but give it thought too. Regardless of whether the colors you chose are "realistic" or not, if they don't make sense from a technical "light and color" point of view, it won't look good. Making a gamut mask really helps coming up with a harmonious color scheme. Read up on this too. On a vaguely related note that orange hair looks really bad, sorry to say

And I know you acknowledge your bad take on anatomy, but, really, learn how to draw and render sketches in grayscale before you get to painting. I know painting is fun, but you gotta go through the hard process of learning how to draw before you paint. Trust me, it'll save you a lot of time along the line and you'll be thankful for it.

Honestly though, I can render basic shapes rather well in grayscale, but the problem arises when I try and add color.

I've been trying to read up on the physical properties of color and light and how they interact under different conditions. I'm currently going through Gurney's book, but so far it hasn't helped me in any noticeable way.
Is there any literature on the topic you would personally recommend?

Also, here's another one I did. I feel like this one is somewhat better than the previous ones, but perhaps the mistakes aren't as noticeable with blue-colored skin.

Simply put, the answer is to draw more.

Your drawings will look better. Thatll give you confidence and you draw more as a result. The more often you draw, the more of a tolerance you will have to long sessions.

6 months ago, spending more than a couple of hours was really hard.
I've been doing tons and tons of drawing every single day, and a week or two ago, I spent 10 hours straight taking drawing requests.

Definitely not good for my health. I learned my lesson, and I paid for it. Point is, I;ve never been able to do that much.

It's very visible how much the lack of pressure sensitivity is hurting you, especially in the clouds.

If the software had some automated fade-in/fade-out and/or taper-in/taper-out plus some really kick-ass smudge/mix-brushes, it'd probably be possible to compensate for that.

But as-is, wouldn't use it for more than sketching

As it stands I am still fumbling around the controls since I'm new to it (can't learn all of photos hop in a day) but I know for a fact that there are multiple brush types. So lack of sensitive is hardly an issue. When\if I learn this it will be a great tool that is cheap and convenient. Besides you have no idea what my drawing process is. This is exactly how my work looks at this stage and I function fine with blending. Uh, okay? Pretty much every artist in the world uses and considers pressure sensitivity to be an essential thing, not a crutch. That's like saying that using color is a crutch. Sounds like you are suffering from a case of stockholm syndrome. If you're going to try to make complex compositions like this, your art will be objectively worse than that made on a pressure-sensitive tablet, but hey, your choice. I would use a solution like this for on-the-go-sketching, maybe thumbnailing, but definitely not for serious work.

>if you're talking about the pose I agree, I wanna work on expressing more personality in figures.

meh. basquiat exists, you can get by with static poses your whole life if you want to. what I'd really worry about is shading. you can't just not have shading. it's arguably the thing most personal between artists when contour lines fail us. It's how we handle values and mark making in small and large areas. Basquiat shaded his drawings and paintings too, just in a very haphazard and irregular way, and always more concerned with color than value, but his flat subjects had weight to them.

It's what is so frustrating about popular artwork that bleeds into just being representational graphic design on tumblr and the like. A contour drawing where you happened to draw every strand of hair might seem nice but it tells us nothing about the artist and is the reason all that stuff blends together into one aesthetic that might as well be by the same artist.

You have got to shade every drawing, and render every inch of what needs to be rendered. You can leave whole swaths white if you want, or do simple gradations in light pencil, but you need something.

Da Vinci had a quote that seems almost pedestrian in it's simplicity, but it was about the difference between the great artists and the people who never get anywhere is being diligent about shading your drawings.

Also I never stated what I would use this app for. I stated how well put together and convenient it was which is still true. And while I don't plan on using this for anything other than on the go animation, and board layout I still wouldn't say that the app is incapable of producing finished pieces. If you had used and seen it in action you would know that someone could easily craft amazing works once they put the effort into it.

It's easy to write something like this off, I should know, I did the same up until about a week ago when I ordered the stylus on sale. And from what I've seen, this and a few other apps areally definately not to be taken lightly.

Yes, of course it's not the only way to create a decent painting, as I already said. A good artist can create a decent painting even with sand on a beach or chalk on a wall. But it's a matter of economy of effort. But hey, whatever works for you.

Tips to improve-

1) After you get done with this, do it again, but focus on construction. Right now it's easy to see that you you didn't construct your sketch properly before starting the study. Try to understand what the body is doing, the torso is leaning back and towards the viewer. In your study it is much straighter.

2) Flip your canvas, as you work. It really helps you see what you are doing wrong. I don't know if pic related helps, but I can clearly see how you need to fix up your sketch.

3) For your shading, start with the largest brush you can possibly use first. Then gradually go smaller.Almost that entire right side of the image should be in some light shadow. You can go and pick out the actual core shadows and the highlight along the glut later. Right now you need to start rough over the whole figure then refine certain parts.

But really... really #1. When you are done, do it again sometime soon after and try to improve.

I initially drew this on a netbook and I realized that the image was slightly stretched and unsaturated. Fixed the chin using another pc but messed up the planes of the head.
Too lazy to do drapery. Thanks

Nope, but I'm Asian.

Using silhouette is good but I think constructing the torso is better. Also, try to render it as a whole by simplifying what you see into 3-4 values.

your form is off. the bust in the ref is standing in a normal stance but the back is arched so the shoulders are pulled back. you have it drawn so that the chest is pushed out. check the vertical line frim thw boob to the stomach. this should be in the beginner thread honestly. bad drawing and its just greyscale values not even color
