Did learning how to draw improve your handwriting?

>> No.2073825

>>2073824
No. They're separate skills.

>> No.2073831

No. I've been drawing for 15 years, and despite my best efforts, I still write like a retarded child with Parkinsons.

>> No.2073833

you should really refer to how long you've been drawing to how long you've been serious and studying it. otherwise there'd be a shit ton of people with '15 years drawing experience' and nothing to show for it.

learning calligraphy improves handrwriting, and is also beneficial for drawing, as its a strict practice in proportion of letters.

>> No.2073836

Yes, after I started drawing, there was a noticeable difference in my handwriting. It's essentially the same as drawing. You use the same skills in order to make your letters look better just like you would make your line work look better in drawing.

When I say I'm drawing, I'm obviously talking about being serious. I drew for fun and toyed around with modeling clay as a kid and young teenager, but I didn't start drawing seriously until a few years later. And by seriously, I mean more or less daily. Over the past 5 years, it's been considerably less, due to a combination of many factors, including burnout, college, work and other hobbies. There just aren't enough hours in the day.

My handwriting is barely legible at the best of times, sometimes I can't read anything I've written.
Which is weird because I'm also a write fag.

>>2073837
my bad, I just assumed you were one of those autists that think it's a good idea to include all the years starting from super-early childhood.

>> No.2074188

Hmmm it seems that it either helps people or it doesn't. For me, it has improved my drawing. But that is because I approach my writing as how I approach my drawing, to get gud. I think that's the main reason I've been getting better at writing, because I approach writing the same way I approach wielding a pen or pencil; getting used to and better with a tool to benefit from it.

I love making strokes and leaving a mark on the world, so I want to at least leave something that not only represents me, but my skill as well.

Scuse me,
>it has improved my drawing

Should be: "has improved my writing"

I'm drunk, thanks autocorrect tho

>> No.2074205

I would say improving the handwriting would improve drawing more than the other way around, although it also depends on what handwriting you're after and what drawing style you do.

why is 4chan so ignorant

>> No.2077508

it doesn't help me with notes or speed writing, but it did help me with my signature

>> No.2077513

>>2077381
Sorry bro, after seeing people say "oh yeah I've been drawing for 20 years" and still be shit, whenever I see people say such big numbers I assume it's one of those guys who include all the damn years since early childhood. This isn't ignorance, it's a bias of mine, and it's unfortunate that I assumed wrong in this scenario...

lolno.

>> No.2077599

Only with giant sharpies.

I write from the shoulder with them and fuck it looks bold.

>> No.2077661

>>2077599
This. I thought I was the only one. I can write from the shoulder like a boss.

>> No.2080752

doesnt fine motor skills like print writing, cursive and drawing use different regions of the brain?

>> No.2080756

Not really no. Mine wasn't bad before but I don't see any improvement after 10 years of practice.

>> No.2080759

>>2073836
Pretty much this.

I ended up writing slower than before

>> No.2080863

who actually writes stuff out on paper anyways?

>> No.2080878

Regained Handwriting first then started to draw 3 years back

People with jobs

>> No.2081010

Not really, but I am much more confident in my shitty writing.

>> No.2081052

>>2073824
shit if if drawing has done something to my writing is making it worse

>> No.2081179

>>2073824
no. my handwriting was and is shit, and i'm quite gud at linework

i think it's different for languages with more picture-like languages where the strokes are similar, such as chinese.

>> No.2082397

>>2073824
I started drawing before I started writing. Well, drawing scribbles and shit. Both skills developed side by side but never together.
