Does anyone know any good books on non-verbal communication? Most of them are too focused on like business communication or dating specifically. I want to know the anatomy of what makes a girl's pose 'cute' or what makes a person look 'like an asshole', etc.

I don't know why I said books specifically. Some nice videos on the subject would be cool too, if not preferable. I want to be an animator but I'm an autistic shut in so I don't interact with people enough to know what the fug they do or why.

Perhaps the "animators survival kit could help you. It does go into some detail in character expression.

Girly poses would be the opposite of many poses. Head tilted toward viewer, chin brought down towards chest, legs folded over each other...that kinda shit. Also look up betty page art books. Lots of sexy n cute girly poses.

I understand that very vague and general theory but it's not very intuitive to me because I'm a sperg. I feel like I'd benefit greatly from not only looking at cute girls doing things but knowing why they're doing them and what makes them cute. I'll never make it in this field if I don't understand this concept that I'm so foreign to ( I probably won't make it either way but, you know, fug ).

You can't draw emotions without empathy.
There is no scientific formula why that pose is cute. It is cute because that's what humans do when they are cute.

You can't break it down to graphs and curves.
It's a smile.

he's right you oaf. It's just cute because that is what we as society have deemed that pose to be. There is nothing inherent about WHY it's cute. It just is.
It's like asking why is a smile a show of happiness universal across cultures? Because fuck it, it is.

Having her body parts close together (as opposed to having them spread out) implies her being reserved/shy, which is cute. Looking up at a person is cute. Anything that imitates childlike/shy behavior is pretty much going to be cute.

take advice like that with a grain of salt, they're helpful generalities but if you don't actually understand body language you're going to end up drawing empty symbols. Like copying chinese calligraphy and not understanding the structure behind it.

I'm interested in the psychology of it. Why is a girl pointing towards her own face or mouth or whatever so cute? I can see that it's cute but I want to know why so I can more easily improvise cute poses on my own, that's all.

>Why is a girl pointing towards her own face or mouth or whatever so cute?

Its got a questioning 'who, me?' sort of vibe to it, it gives the model a sense of innocence and naivety as such and that's cute.

It's just common sense. Most of these interpretation attempts are just guesswork or stating the obvious, like the one above where having your hands under your chin is a 'courtship pose' where the person is symbolically offering their face on a platter (what?)
