Have you had that feeling where the drawing or artist you once admired, got inspiration from, or just amazed you now has the opposite effect?

It feels so bizarre to look back at your favorite drawings and see a number of mistakes that makes you go how the fuck did they miss that? Better yet how the fuck did it impress me back then?

It's strange, but why is that?

I know how you feel.
I think it is because you are able to observe things easier and you can now see their mistakes because you have gotten better at seeing your own. It kind of makes me feel like an asshole.

Any drawing I do is my favorite while I'm doing it and makes me feel embarassed the morning after I finished it. apart the mspaint silly doodles.

One of the reasons I got into drawing in the first place was because I idolized some drawfags about two years ago. I look back on their work now and their flaws and shortcomings are incredibly apparent but it still has it's charm. This feeling is actually a lot more apparent when I look at my own stuff I did a while ago that people praised.

Ughghghghghgh

the other day i found the blog of an artist i used to look up to on DA at least 7 years ago.

his new stuff still looks exactly the same.

and its not very good

>> No.2058305

I used to think Dan Luvisi was amazing.

>>2056706

Those faces remind me of that dude who used to post here with the DA account name "jinfeng" (since deactivated) fucking creepy dead looking faces everywhere and weird nazi erotica. Wonder what happened to that guy... probably prison.

Yeah, initially just amateur artists, but now I find it hard to find art that really "talks" to me.

When I was 17 Mark Bagley made me want to draw comics.

Now he's nowhere near my list of favorite artists.

probably you're failing to see the forest for the trees. in other words becoming too detail oriented. which will also hurt your own work. so watch out.

I think the feeling of not being able to pop a boner to a drawing you know that you used to masturbate furiously to is now ruined by your ability to see all of the mistakes is much more worse.

We're talking about representational art here, champ, not the kind of art aimed at "special" people like yourself where everyone is always a winner.

I used to like Caravaggio for his intense lighting and placement, but I've become more of an abstract fan now.

I think something a lot of -new artists- miss is that they're so caught up looking at flaws they fail to see the good in things.
Most artists will never be amazing at everything and their work will always have feature that are pretty bad, but there's still something that you liked in them. There's appeal to their images despite the flaws, and those are the things you should be looking at and taking from them.
That's the thing with lots of stylized art as well, there's plenty of things even a beginner could tell you is wrong, but it still appeals to a large number of people.

I think that is actually the worst aspect of trying to become good at drawing. I still can rub it out sometimes if I really force myself, but that really is not the same thing.

Bright side is those rare cases when you come over something really good.

It's an /ic/ and 4chan quirk. These faggots look at something and think "what did they do wrong" where as most artists look at something and go "what did they do right."

only with sycra because its been so long and he seems to have stagnated that im catching up to him fast

i been getting art feels lately though like now that im improving to a higher standard and entering the intermediate zone i find myself craving alcohol more

my dad was a big alcoholic for most of his life but hes been sober for like 7 years now. i dont want to end up like him cause having addictive personality runs in the family but with the stress of gittin gud at art i find the relief of a drink now and again more and more appealing. im slowly turning into /ic/-tan

to be fair in sycra's case it seems he's spending more time on other things outside of art and working toward something only he really cares about when he does take time to practice. so progress for him might look like stagnation from an outside view.
(he's still a pretty meh tier artist overall though imo)
