the concept artist position, would that be contract or inhouse? it doesn't say in the ad. i'd imagine inhouse though, right?

long worked for weta remotely though if i remember correctly, for 50k a year or so. or still does, i have no idea.

don't think i have a shot but i'll probably try anyway, even if just so they look at my portfolio and think 'meh, maybe next year buddy'.

yes they are, we build toys robots with hands atm because they don't need to be functional, just fun. irl robots wouldn't have hands because it doesn't suit a single drive, there are much more elegant solutions, so it'd be silly for robots to have hands, even in the circumstance where they may be required to use tools designed for humans.

try find a robot doing an actual job irl that has an awkward little fragile human hand on those super powerful arms.

I vote for hands on androids, they are great for doing things, it's an all purpose tool.

If I was designing Mech I would never give them handguns or capes, it's mount almost everything on the chasis but I would stull give them manipulator just so they have it, maybe they could build with it or do stuff or punch for badassery.

Why are you guys arguing with a mechanical engineering student? He might be a first year, C-grade student for all I care. Not even a full fledged , working engineer.

The robot might have an advanced internal gyroscope for all I care.

Eh, not a good enough reason. It's impracticable but not overly so to the point that it's ridiculous or anything. It can work assuming you aren't going for full realism or anything.

There are two kinds of mechs: weeaboo and western, weeobu muchs use hands for glowing katanas, also they suck so fuck them.

Western mechs don wield weapons in hands but their hands may serve any purpose.
Atlas can open up a fallen enemy mech and use his hands to scavenge it's intestines.
Also Atlas can build a camp for soldiers in no time, or it can do any heavy duty work.

Also Atlas can fucking punch the shit outta almost anything, (this probably breaks his arms)

Ok, tell me

What's the difference between a Concept Artist and a Visual Development Artist?

>> No.2018704

>>2018679
The two are used interchangeably from what I've seen. There may be a subtle difference (concept artist is used more for things like character or vehicle design, vis-dev I hear more for like lighting and mood design?), but if you say one or the other people will know what you mean.

>> No.2018719

>>2018679

like anon says they roughly mean the same thing. concept artist is used mostly in games though, whereas in animation the term visdev artist is more common.

the only term i feel is a little different is concept designer. this one sort of implies that there is a tremendous amount of experience and thought behind every decision you make. if you are a rookie or have mid level work, calling yourself concept designer is going to come across as incredibly pretentious.
