there is no angle a human body could be twisted into that is any more difficult than a standing pose or a front facing person. That's why so many great paintings are simple portraits or standing poses. It's the minuteness of details and boldness of form in the simple and boring that elevates a great painter from an average painter. If you claim anything is too boring to paint you are just trying to seem more adventurous than the average person. do away with your affectations. they are unbecoming.

That's all fine and dandy m8, but if you want to git gud at drawing figures in complex poses, you're gonna have to draw figures in complex poses. Drawing a figure in a complex pose pushes challenges your ability in gesture, basic forms, anatomy, etc.
A portrait here and there is good, but the overwhelming majority of study threads is 'lets draw this pretty girl'.
Also, you're bringing 'boring' and 'artistic expression' into the equation, I never mentioned that.
Even so, studies are done to improve. That doesn't mean they should be without spirit, but this shouldn't be the place for artsty fartsy muh expression thinking.

2. Noise. Make copy layer of the new version and apply noise as much as you want. Mask it so lighter parts wouldn't be affected by the noise.

Careful with proportions--you squished it vertically a fair bit. I also think you could do with being a bit more decisive in your marks. Maybe times oyu do multiple lines where one would suffice, and your lines are all done with a light hand. Some darker more assertive lines (well placed of course) would do you a lot of good.

>> No.2010494

>>2010478
Thank you. I'm not sure if the proportion problem is a side effect of my using straights to start it all, instead of a ball with lines for the jaw, and so forth. I was worried about which one was the better choice for this, but figured I'd find out either way. The way I did it, I didn'tget much chance to introduce proportion, just a minor line for the hair line, and then the eyes and nose. Maybe it would have been better the other way.

I guess the multiple line problem can only be solved through lots of practice, which is good. It's the failing in order to realize success that scares me, heh.

Thanks anon.

If I were to grab a couple of essential qualities that make her face unique, it'd be

which I think contributes to the alien look.

most people are missing the mark on the heart-shaped face as well. soft pointed chin, very subtle puffiness in the lower cheeks. Whereas I'm seeing a lot of oval faces here.

I kinda like the graphic look overall, but some of the finer lines detract more than they add (dark line along the top of the upper lip for example). The big white outline might also be a little too uniform and overdone. The more I look at it the more it looks like a magazine cutout. Basically there are a lot of elements in yours that's flattening any sense of depth, and I'd work on ironing those out.

Your proportions also need major work, as you've made the face too long and the head too narrow. Measure and place your landmarks with precision.

I think it's rather generic for drawing. You may not see it often in real life, but in drawings, it's the most common thing. Just look at the galleries of most popular "cute girls" artists like kr0n, loish, sakimi and all that crowd. It is similar to the average faces generated off multiple photos. I think that is why the similarity is hard to capture - you don't have anything too uniqe to hook on to so very small angles start to play the role. If the model had a very intrusive and rare nose for example, it would be easier to recognize even a sloppy picture of them.
