All you need to know is Loomis and Loomis.

Sfter watching a few videos about how to actually use your artistic tools and some terminology (proko is great for that), you could probably get by with the Bargue drawing course to train your observational drawing skills and FWAP to engage your imaginative ones.

Fuck that find yourself

the Schoolism Lighting with sam nielson

If you don't understand how important light is for form and texture it will change your life.

There was a torrent up somewhere but it skipped a shit ton, still upgraded my drawing skills.

What are the principles that make the fundamentals that much fundamental? What gives them utility?

If you can't answer those questions what makes you think you know what a fundamental is, let alone how to learn it?

&nb4: "You can apply them to anything" that doesn't really explain anything and only reinforces a circular logic here.

Not the guy who posted it but this is actually good advice.

I actually started off drawing "stick people" because they were easy to draw and there was no pressure because stick people.
Because they were so spaghetti like in movement, it became easier for me to understand gesture and action lines in poses. Eventually I made the stick people more advanced and things just came easier to me because of the basic simple shapes and contortions I was using for stick people (which now are called "construction lines").

TL;DR starting off "drawing anything" is a good way to find "muh style" and draw without over-complicating your thoughts and drawings.

#5 and implied #8 is exactly how I set up a drawing, the artist who posted this is literally the only artist I've seen who draws like I do.

sauce? I wanna see this guy

consciously drawing shit is the most important ever. fuck my earlier influences for tricking younger me into only pushing paint around

>> No.2005315

how do I get myself to practice more?
I'm in the middle of beginner and intermediate and my brain keeps telling me "no you're good enough bro! :)))))"
like, I want to actually be good but it's just hasn't been kicking me in the past month
I'm worried because I want my new years res to happen this time

so you basically made another shitty tutorial thread before checking the catalog.

...and a beginners thread too, without checking the catalog.

...and you didn't read the sticky, which is the first fucking thing you see anytime you come to /ic/

i'm tired of you newbies shitting up the board.

I'll let that slide, this board is one of the slowest ones on /ic/ after all.

uhm this is not a beginners thread nor a tutorial thread. this is a fundamentals thread to discuss the art fundamentals in general, how you approach them, how they vary depending on the end goal, best order, useful exercises, etc.

it can be answered, you just have to find the answer for self. that's the big secret.

What are the go to books on anatomy? Michael Hampton's Design and Invention seems great for being able to draw characters of your own from memory, but it doesn't actually teach you the anatomy knowledge needed so I need a good well rounded book that'll make me knowledgeable on anatomy.
