Because you don't need a màstery of the human figure to be a professional concept artist or illustrator.
You still need to know the fundamentals but after a certain point you can get by on reference alone.

Because I'm learning from Hampton at the moment.

because doing that after 65+ years of drawing bodies is not that special even though it's good. and because i'm probably close to that level. maybe half to 1 year away from imagination.

He's right though. Well I can't vouch for his skill, but if I drew figures for close to three quarters of a century I would hope to be at the very least at villpu's skill level. He really isn't all that great, he's just been turned into a meme and all you guys are just talentless dick riders who don't know any better

let them be insecure fanboys, I know where i'm at, and probably most dedicated artists can easily get to that level within 2 years of consistent and efficient anatomy practice but they'll never be able to.

I personally find huston to be a hundred times better and that's my real goal, but I guess they never even heard the name.

Takes more than two years to reach Vilppu level. He's not a god, but he's a very solid draftsman with many decades of practice under his belt. His comfort in drawing from imagination and his understanding of gesture are things that would take a number of years to learn, let alone the other stuff he's doing.

And while I agree that Huston's aesthetic is very nice (and laugh that you think people don't know him given how famous he is at the moment), I think it is silly that he's your goal. Better to aspire to be like the best of all time, not just the best of today.

I'm not talking about pace or ease of drawing, so maybe that's not totally the same level, but I'm talking about the overall anatomy, it may take longer to draw, but I expect anyone to be able to do the op's picture in 2 years (if you already have a drawing background of course, not starting from scratch)

that's pretty basic.

>> No.1990346

>>1990336
Oh. Yeah the pic in OP is pretty meh. "Two years" is a very vague term though. Like two years of what? If you are drawing 8 hours a day from the model with good instruction then yeah I would expect you to draw at that level. But two years of full time study can do a lot so it's no surprise.

People like him because of how he uses form, that was my appeal at least.
