Well the image is really washed out feeling with your current values. The suit is a dirty grey and there are no dark values anywhere. Personally I like black suits--they seem to be just more intimidating and have more of a presence.

Also you don't need to worry about rendering it all out, a simple indication of things is enough most of the time, especially when the local value is dark. You can keep the suit almost one value then knock in a few subtle highlights.

Is she supposed to look sickly and grey? Aim for smoother transitions especially on rounded surfaces like her cheeks.

You're jumping from shadows to highlight too rapidly. There's not enough midtone. As a result,
her hair looks like it has chunks of white/grey instead of dark green.

Do some portrait greyscale studies to practice more on form and values.

I use more saturated colors as shadows and gradually add highlights using slightly desaturated colors. I didn't use layer modes for this, but its worth experimenting for more color variation.

Pure white and pure black is saved for lighting situations like in attached. Harsh, one source.
Skin tones are tricky, since it can have so many different hues at once. You'll know how to handle skin better by doing more studies and observation.

you're using the same texture to describe everything. the horns, feathers, skin... it's all the same thing.

experiment with using different shapes as your textures. short parallel lines, long parellel lines, dots, criss crossing lines, circles. really sit down and learn what you're preferences for every kind of texture look like ( everyone draws parellel lines differently), rather than just jumping into studies.

I would draw the dog's back body in a way that match the relative vanishing points of the girl.

The redline is complete shit but i tried to mark things to help you understand what I'm saying

- The sand isn't interesting at all since it has basically no texture and it takes most of the painting therefore most of the painting is not interesting
- You have three contesting Focal Points the building in the back, the dude and the stone tablets
- You might make get away with the three FPs but the composition is bad, The sand on the sides leads off the painting with nothing to stop the eye bleeding off the painting
and most of it actually leads to the small dune in the middle making it the place where the focal point should be, yet there is nothing there making the viewer confused now
knowing where to look at.
