I've always wondered this, what's so bad about HSB compared to the others?

>> No.1984287

it makes you think about color completely wrong. like you could separate color into those 3 categories and shift each around individually to create a matching palette. it's absolutely crippling imo.

aw man i wouldn't even know where to start and it's so hard without demonstrating visually. try it, i think you'll quickly learn why it's vastly superior.

Sliders dont really matter. If you're popping up the color selection window and using the slider to change values is about as simple as it gets. I wanna know your methods. God damn ic, you non drawing fags need to shut the fuck up and let real artists give the advice. The funny thing is, you almost sound legit. But I know you probably only paint like a 5 year old.

RGB are the primary colours of additive light mixing. If you want to understand how light interacts, you use these three. subtractive colour mixing comes from a specific tradition of working with pigments that absorb light, so the true opposites of RGB are CYM. RYB were the primaries for traditional painting because they had the easiest access to the more common pigments, since Magenta is not naturally occurring and Cyan is very hard to come by.

RGB, however, is where it's at, since even though traditional paints must be looked at through the lens of subtractive mixing, you are painting light that mixes additively and can't be avoided. Check out James Gurney's Color and light, as well as David Brigg's Huevaluechroma for the information regarding the science of light.

Tl;dr: painting with RGB sliders is best because there is no gap between how physical light interacts with our eyes and the medium we use to mix with. It's literally painting with light.

Also, here's linran's ideas on the subject.

Couldn't upload the file to 4chan because it's too big.

Anyone use the color window to select colors and add them to a separate psd?

I would try to test colors together, or overlap some for mixing into a new color.

That doesn't really mean anything considering you can bring up an actual colour wheel with Alt+Shift+Rightclick

The reason why you get this kind of reponse is because you sound like an arrogant prick who overvalues his "advice". Your first post was
>"he uses HSB sliders. no wonder he sucks."
which obviously brings forth a kneejerk reaction from others.

I am only ECSTATIC that you aren't giving such misinformed advice to these lovely anons! I can only imagine destruction every time you slap keys and press the 'post' button.

HSB is pretty much how one should think about colors. Value > Intensity > Hue. Experimenting and studying with HSB sliders has made my traditional painting more effective, because I understand the pattern. I suppose it helps that I painted first before using photoshop. But each tool is meant to emulate traditional painting. Only digital makes it so much more accessible to every retard.

I personally don't like Dan Luvisi's art, but one thing to keep in mind is that he's color blind. I found out after he banned someone in his twitch for teasing him about it. So I imagine he actually using HSB for his handicap.
