Looks great except there's some stuff on the horse I'd nitpick. The snout is too short and doesn't taper down narrow enough. Also I think the eye looks too small. Lastly, I think you should simplify the forms of the rear leg. You can check out some other pics of horses, too, you don't have to just stick to copying the piece if that's how you've been approaching it. Right now it looks like an odd human leg instead of a horse leg. Other than that, good stuffs.

It looks like you made the fog so thick that you can't see the horizon which can happen but then the tank/car doesn't look like it's covered by that much fog considering how far away they are. So either remove fog from the background by darkening in the horizon and adding more detail to the people or add fog over the machines. Personally I'd say remove some fog otherwise everything just turns grey. I dunno, jus tryin'a help.

You want to use a range of values, dont be scared to push the value range. A lot of people are scared to do thar and play it safe hovering between 3 - 7 on the values and never going to 1 or 10, this is because they don't understand transitional values.

You should look up Sargeant and study his paintings a lot of the old masters use values to push composition. A great way to learn is to turn those masters art to grayscale before trying assess cor value. Good luck.

try to have your pieces in some reference to reality, right now it looks like every other mediocre concept art with a bland and tasteless design
All i see is a floating tower and sun and nothing else. it's important to place it in a reality, so even just adding a horizon line, mountains or other buildings could help greatly.

you're making good copies, just focus on form structure. You have no idea what a real pelvis looks like except from these simplified images. The better you get at understanding form the better you'll be at executing stuff like this.

What I'm saying is, you'll learn to draw a better pelvis by drawing your toothbrush than from a diagram of a pelvis. If you actually have a skeleton to use though, then cool.

-needs more emotion (detailed facial features)-
-needs brighter values/lights-
try for a not-so-dark background; it tends to change the feel of the atmosphere
the ref is a bit more chiseled than yours is. Yours is rounder and smoother
maybe a bit more textured brush library could help you get the feel of it too.

overall, really nice.

>> No.1960526

>>1960517
Try aiming for stronger planes and sharper edges. One big issue is that yours is very mushy compared to the original. If anything, I advise painting in a way that your edges overall are too hard, and then later softening where needed.

You're also missing the bright light coming from the front. Notice how the front of the forehead is bright and yellow in the original, where yours is darker and redder.

Overall it's still a pretty good attempt.

>> No.1960529

the colors wouldn't look like that. check your values and USE REFERENCES. smoother color transitions on the buildings would be nice too. use some of that perspective on the clouds, directed at a single point.
The sun be less... focused. by that I mean more saturated, as well as the buildings being more detailed.

also, that composition... a floor would be nice. or more perspective, added to what I just wrote.

Slow down. This looks sloppy and rushed. Get all of the big shapes correct first. Make sure they have the right value, color and edges. Next, zoom in a bit and refine each of those shapes with the subshapes that are there, following the same principle. Keep repeating at many steps down as you want depending on the final level of polish you want.

I advise using some harder edged brushes, and brushes with some texture so that patches of underlying color can be seen. Pay close attention to how Olly does it. Zoom out of both, and squint at both. Notice the color and value differences for starters.

Well first dont ignore your hands and feet.
Try using more range of values. Have your darks go darker. Try and spend more time in the planning phase of your drawing so you can get the proportions right. Some forms read better then others. Some are really flat.

Outlining your drawing with make it look flat too. You darkened the space behind her to make her "pop out" but the outline negates that.

Using softer brushes for the clouds would help. Clouds really don't have hard edges very often, especially when you're up inside them. They'd be much softer in that image.

I'd also say that a better technique to paint the planes would be to do a fairly tight line drawing of them and then use the lasso tool to cut out their silhouettes, lock the transparency of that cutout, and paint on it behind the lines for crisper edges. Basically Algenpfleger's technique. Painting them with the hard round with no lasso masking is going to end up making them smudgier than you want them.
