But if you're talking about the collage stuff, I wasn't trying to be edgy. I just tried to make new pictures from scraps of stuff because I wasn't drawing for the longest time and I needed some sort of creative output to make me not hate myself. I honestly think some of the collages are funny and relatively lighthearted. The polaroids were just shit I did for fun that sometimes accidentally came out looking neat, really. I put effort into the music I make and I'm studing drawing/painting though. I'm not confident in my drawing skills to post shit yet, though.

Not that guy, but I really disagree. dA is a pretty different audience, and while there may be a large population on the site, I think the tumblr audience is a more beneficial group to go after.

I think it's much more effective to show your work to non artists (tumblr) than it is other artists (dA). Winning over the masses on Tumblr will give your work far more reach on the web than winning the masses on dA.

I think if you're going to focus on one or the other, focus on Tumblr. Instagram is becoming increasingly popular too. It'd be smart to jump on that ASAP as well.

No deliberate tutorials yet, sorry!

However, it's the effect of three things -
1. Using a brush that maintains a sense of stroke. This means there's some sort of streaky-ness to it that makes it so you can tell you moved your hand a certain direction.
2. Using the 'texture' option under brush settings. This helps strokes lose their perfect digital aesthetic and replaces it with real world textures. Helps add a bit of variety to what would otherwise be a flawless mark.
3. Some loose canvas textures slightly overlayed on top on the finished drawing.

Keeping things loose instead of tight really helps, but I really think it's all in the brushes and how you use them. They're fairly simple to make!

Has anyone ever been featured on the Tumblr radar before?

In the past 2 weeks, I've had two posts just shoot up in their note count, to about ~2000 notes overnight, and then quickly die off within like 3 hours. It brings in about 250 followers each time too.

Did I get on the Tumblr radar? Do you even get any notification if you're on the radar? I can't think of any other explanation for such a big spurt in reblogs.

I'll be more specific:

The face looks like a a doll-like mask. The neck isn't connected to the head properly. The proportions of the head are off.

I made a quick rough edit. Lowered the head. Tried to correct the neck. Pushed the face back. Chopped off part of the back and top of the head. It's by no means perfect but it should give you an idea. Find some references to guide you with the proportions from that angle.

I'd post most of the backlog upfront, so that way your more regular releases are current stuff. It might force you to draw more to keep a regular posting schedule instead of having a safety net to fall back on. I'm new to the tumblr scene so I'd get a second opinion on all that.

Back when I asked I heard that posting every other day is generally good. Pay attention to how often artists you like are active on it. Dave Rapoza seemed fairly active over the past week.

thanks. I wouldn't call me good at colors, at least I feel like I have a lot to learn. But what definately helped me is James Gurneys Color&Light book and mike azevedo's gumroad about color. Other than that I just experiment a lot with layer modes to get my colors, esp. Overlay, Hard Light and Color dodge. Hope that helps.

Why is it a trend for some artists on the internet to be genuinely autistic enough to get upset when their work gets posted somewhere? If you draw purely for pleasure and want no attention, then don't post it on the fucking internet. What's worse is when they start deleting older works so you need to do series detective work to see even some of it. Fucking hell.
