How do you deal with that? I love to draw but its depressing not feeling happy with your work, ever.

>> No.1950593

go to a bookstore, there's a bunch of illustration books and comics with shit art, you dont have to be at the level of the top pros to publish.
you'll get to that lvl one day with enough dedication.

>> No.1950709

I know that feel. I've been drawing/painting for almost 20 years, and I still struggle with this.

Most of the times I finish a painting, and I'm proud of it for a few days, then I think its crap and stop drawing or painting, sometimes for months. I then do something else, like photo or music until I find the inspiration again.
But having high standards of quality and comparing yourself to "top illustrators" is a good way to progress. Even if your top artists and taste will change over time. And there always will be people better than you, in every domain. I am never happy with what I make, but sometimes my art will make someone happy, and its worth it. I spent 2 months on a christmas present for my grandmother, and she started crying when she opened it. I guess thats the kind of thing that makes me continue painting. But for every moment like this, you will make a lot of shitty disappointing drawings. Thats how progress works, probably. Sorry for poor englisherino.

I also feel like my paintings aren't what i want them to be but i don't fucking depress over it. I keep painting because i know i'm not painting at my best yet

then you are lucky and I envy you. I'm extremely perfectionist. Like I said I can easily spend 6 months on an oil portrait. I put everything I've got into my pictures. And yes of course its depressing when I fail. Its like giving birth to a potato child.

If ever there's a real answer to this question, hell will freeze.
I keep thinking I've gotten so good and then I go browse tumblr or drawcrowd for a second and wonder why I have even a single follower. It's so hard to hold your head up sometimes.
I think what I wanna do is push myself to do better, do more studies and life drawings and stuff and see if I can bring some of what I like in other people's work to my own. We just have to remember that, even where we are now we used to think we'd never reach, so it's possible, it just takes putting in the time and work.

Turn those feelings of inferiority into anticipation and curiosity. Ask yourself, how they were able to draw/paint/animate those crazy shapes and colors and try to figure it out.

Art is like a signature. Who's to say that your signature is no good? Each thing you make is as individual as yourself on this earth.

You might think your work isn't that awesome, but some people might think it is really great. You might also think something is really great, but nobody really likes it.

Just keep on toiling and learning. You'll have good and not so good along on the journey.

>but still feel like shit compared to top illustrators

Well duh. Pros usually have 5-10+ years experience. Check yourself and compare yourself each year.

Well never in the US maybe

And no, there are different conventions on how many continents there are, and yes North America, Central America and South America are known as America as a whole, but you are not wrong, America is also short for United States of America (As Mexico is short for United States of Mexico or Estados Unidos Mexicanos) But america IS a continent, in this part of the hemisfere we are taught that way at least, not saying that you are wrong, just wanted to make my point, and yeah sorry for broken english, mi español es mucho mejor

Some countries teach Asia and Europe are the same continent, anyway have a nice day anon

sakimichan makes 5k/week; notch sold minecraft for 2billion $; failbook generates tons of money. There will always be someone, that makes more money than you.

But if i look at this book it motivates me in 2 ways:
1. If someone as shit, as him can make it - then i can as well.
2. Even, if you are "successful", that doesn't mean, that you are good. There are higer goals to strive for, than just money. And this point actually makes me feel very comfortable.
